Toy Story 3 back in production!!!

"Iger said Disney would release about two Pixar films each year, an increase over Pixar's earlier goal of about one per year. Pixar will take over production of ``Toy Story 3,'' a sequel that Disney's in-house animators had been working on, Iger said."

This was announced yesterday at Disney's earnings conference call. I think this is great news since Pixar will be taking over production. However, I'm a little worried about Pixar releasing 2 movies a year. This is how quality goes down by rushing projects along. In my opinion 2 pixar movies plus 1 Disney animated feature a year is just to much. They are going to flood the market.

I follow you on the quality issue this seems highly likely, but lets hope Pixar gets a handle on this.

I don't know about this statement though, I mean it seems you have been hiding your head in the sand for the past two years. Haven't you seen commercials for all the recent movies? A majority of them are animated, the market is already flooded, and well stocked. The only difference would be that Disney would have more of a presence, which might not be to bad.

Well, a Toy Story 3 by Pixar will definately be much better than that lame version Disney had in store.

As for 2 Pixar films a year, it could be done, but in order to do that, they're really going to have to hire a TON of extra hands, and expand the studios.

2 films a year worries me a lot, no studio has ever been able to release that many features a year and continue to keep their stories fresh and exciting. I don't see this as a good thing whatsoever....if they want to release that many pictures a year, Pixar and Disney will not be able to afford American based animators and will ship the animation overseas where it is much cheaper and cost effective. All major studios in America are bound the MPSC 839 union and the prices they set for all animators to make....these are not cheap salaries that are set by these people and that is why many studios ship the animation overseas...they can't afford the Americans. I see this as something that if not done properly will tarnish Pixars image to that of current Disney animation - which is not a good thing.

Sequels

Sequels people Sequels...we are currently taking about number 3...I swear if Disney makes one more seuel,,,the great Walt will start rolling in his grave......If he were still alive we would have many more classics like Peter Pan, Cinderella, ect ect ect....heres what we call evidance

Citing from the book.."The quotable Walt Disney" by Dave Smith..page 29

Walt himself said..."I've never believed in doing sequels. I didnt want to waste the time I have doing a sequel ; I'd rather be using that time doing somthing new and different. It goes back to when they wanted to do more pigs."

AMEN AMEN AMEN AMEN.......Heres the boss saying what ive been saying...Lets take the time we have and create somthing new and entertaing,,,obviously TOY STORY 3 will be entertaining but for the love of god 3 is pushing it!!! WELL SAID MR. DISNEY!!!!!!!!

Or they could realign some people from I don't know maybe the Circle 7 studio. A studio shift could possibly save money, and reduce the negative PR by slowing the recent layoff onslaught.

That is an interesting quote from Mr. Disney, and yes he was an extremely creative individual, but if you look at the body of his work that quote doesn't always ring true.

Awww now Radiohost, that is an interesting quote anda great point to bring up but I don't believe a third toy story would be all that bad. I wasn't much of a fan for Aladdin 3 but other movies in the movie industry have done great in triologies. I know you'll hate this but star wars, godfather, maybe even Pixar's Toy Story. hehe!

I guess if it happens, it happens. But, I do agree that Disney needs to go back into the thinking room and maybe even go back to the classic hand drawing animations. I know they took forever but they are beloved classics. We need more of those!

if you type in walt disney on the website www.imdb.com you will see up until he died he did very little IF ANY sequels. The man was a creative genious

Settle down now :)

I never said he wasn't, Mr. Disney is at the top of my list of Creative genius', but he was a huge "business genius" too. He knew when to sequelize things during peak moments to reinvigorate his finances....which is what allowed him to keep creating at some points. If you recall in another of his quotes he says how he created Fantasia as a movie that would be redone from time to time.

Well, sorry if I'm the first to inform you, but Walt is dead. There are others in charge now, and not only are sequels popular, but they also help renew lagging franchises. Sequels are not going away anytime soon...

Well thanks for the shock of the millennium!!!!! I agree that sequels can help lagging franchises, and can be good if done right, but the point Im trying to make is, havent we done enough sequels. Cant we just wait a few years and put all the new creative ideas on the front burner,,,,this is 2006 people, and with the exception of a few cool Pixar flicks, the disney movie production team has been lagging quite a bit. Hopefully the new CEO Bob Iger will see this and change it.....OBTW.....If you check out disneys profit makings the past 5 years, you will see that their revenue from movies is at the same low that it was back in the EARLY 80's !!!!!!!!!!! Lets wake up people!!!!

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure this comment was referring to his biggest hit of the time "the three little pigs" which I'm pretty sure has two sequels.

Uh, are you suggesting they stop production of any/all films and channel it into new productions?

Not really, Chicken little may not have been an enormous success, but it still occupied much of the studios time. It's not that they haven't been producing, it's just that you don't like what they've produced.

Not sure where you got this fact, but regardless, the movie industry is quite different at the moment...
