I hate Howie Mandel, but that whole Tower thing they did was great! I thought it was a really nice first look at the attraction.

Some differences I noticed (there's some slight spoilers for the ride up ahead):

Entrance and lobby - I really like the look of the entrance. Much bigger and grander than the original. Maybe a little too nice. It's supposed to be dilapidated, right? The lobby itself looks very similar to Florida's. The biggest difference here is the ceiling.

Boiler room - Looked to be a bit larger with more colorful lighting. Not sure what that was about...

Boarding - The service elevator doors in the boiler room do not open to reveal the waiting elevator. Instead, you go through them, then through what appears to be a small room or hallway, then through another set of doors which is where the elevator is. The car looks to be the same as the ones in Florida, but they've changed the seat numbering. In Florida the seating is like this:
Code:
6666 555
4444 333
2222 111
while theirs is like this:
Code:
4444 xxx
5555 xxx
6666 xxx
I couldn't see the numbers on the right so I don't know the order.

The ride (from what I could tell from the camera pointed at Howie, the background sounds, and Howie's narration) - it starts out rolling backwards with a Rod Serling narration. Once rolled back, the car moves up a bit and stops for what I assume to be the "mirror scene." You hear Rod say "Wave goodbye to the real world," and moments later there is a loud crash and the vehicle shakes/drops a bit. The car then moves down a little and the familiar corridor scene plays out. At the end of this scene, the bit of narration that plays just before the Florida Fifth Dimension ("One stormy night long ago, five people stepped through the door of an elevator and into a nightmare, etc.") plays and is immediately followed by the drop sequence. It looked to be similar to Florida's previous "Fear Every Drop" sequence. The car then rolls forward again and the ride is over.

I also would like to mention that the DL version of ToT has three drop shafts versus the two drop shafts found in WDW.

I am curious: is the story/ pre show identical to WDW's version. I saw Howie enter a library, but they didn't show anything really. Also, I heard rumors that the tower in DL was going to feature something called "Disapearing Guests." Does anyone know if this was ever played out?

P.S. I though Howie Mandel was really funny during his narration. "You can tell it's my flashlight because they put it right next to the menorah!"

I believe this refers to the "mirror scene." Watch this to see what might happen (they messed up the order in which the mirror and corridor scenes occur, though).

The past few days they have been scurring around trying to get the outside part "attraction ready". Even pouring asphalt this past wed, and thur. Notice the orange elevation markers on the asphalt during the opening bumper roll.

The green street lamps were also installed in the past days, as well as back stage they are installing additional lighting for the outside of tower.

Also the boiler room is split level boarding, once you exit the library there will be a staircase to go either way same load wait time, increased ride count :-)!!

Anaheim fire and rescue were backstage as well on Fri. getting the low down on rescue practice.

Just a side note from what you may have read on the internet that TOT is NOT open and is not pulling guests yet for testing. It was confusing enough with bringing the float down and everyone thinking that TOT was open! The people you might see ride testing are from WDI adjusting the attraction.

Still looking at a May Grand opening with maybe a late april soft opening (dont quote me).

That's a really awesome! I think that is what I heard about.:D

Let me get this straight ...is there no segment in the DL version of ToT in which the riders actually go horizontal to enter the drop shaft. It seems to me that the WDW version is a lot better...

I actually happened to be at DCA today during the afternoon taping of the show, and they did a segment on the new Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs show. Looked kinda cute, but one of the 'woodland creatures' was dancing around in a way that really kinda weirded me out... :lookaroun
