Tower of Terror Changes

So, rumor has it that we'll be seeing some major changes to the tower of terror in the near future. An MGM cast member told me last week that they are planning to add two additional floors to the ride... assuming this means areas the elevator moves through... as well as a greatly modified drop sequence.

2 new rooms??? That would require them to re-do the entire interior of the ride..so i dont think thats going to happen ;)

I have to agree. As great as two more rooms would be, it is an inefficient way to re-do a ride, especially one the size of the Tower. We know that the randomizers are coming, but more rooms seem a bit much. They might add a stop before the one that is there with the ghost, but I really have no idea what they could put there. The story is set, and adding more to it will probably just make it confusing.

Well, it probably won't happen, but if it does, Tower of Terror will just be that much better!! Tower of Terror is the one ride that never stops getting updated.

Out of the horses mouths

I didn't believe it at first, but I guess there is some space left to do it. The MGM cast member did say he expected the ride would be down for a while to do it. It is going to be the most intense change for the ride since it opened. I, personally, am of the opinion that more is better for this ride. My guess is the reference to "two new floors" will be something that takes place in the intial shaft. There is also a tremendous amount of room below the loading area if memory serves me... so that could be used as well. At any rate, I'm sure the imagineers have it under control.

Trust me, there's plenty of space in there for a new room...its just that aah well, here goes my explination of the ride system...

Your elevator sits in a cage...the cage has a "guidewire" on it, similar to the type found in Universe of Energy, and maybe GMR. The guidewire emits and sends signals to and from each cage, and sends it to the RCC (ride control computer). If the RCC detects that a cage traveled off course, mainly due to a power glitch, it will stop the ride. 80% of the ride is going UP or DOWN. there's lots of space INSIDE between going up/down to add more stuff...remember, its 13 STORIES! the rooms are only in the 3 and 5th, i think, and then its all the way up with NOTHING there! so, it IS feasable, just probably very tedius, as the whole track and "cage holders" would have to be built and somehow transported through the tower to their respectave locations.

How many floors do you see on the ride?? 2
Have you all ever thought that they could be re doing those floors? HMMMM?? They could be fixing the eye that you see the people in ...

It all sounds great! I haven't been on ToT since '95, so I've missed some of the drop sequences, and I hope that they don't have the ride down in early October, b/c it was one of my favorites.

It would be cool if they could put in alternative routes through the floors if they were to add maore. As in, keeping the same story, but showing it differently, depending on which way it takes you. Don't see it happenning myself, but it would be cool.

have you guys ever noticed that the first stop is at a different floor in each shaft? In one of the elevators, the first stop is on the second floor. Thus, they could not add a stop before the first stop to all of the shafts...they would have to completely redo the ride to make extra stops...doesn't seem too likely to me...I guess anything is possible...perhaps if they did one shaft at a time....but that would take FOREVER...

As far as I know, Disney World does most of thier rehabs in January, February, and March. I don't think they would close it in the summer or September.
