Tourist dies at SeaWorld's Aquatica

Oct 4, 2010

An unidentified 68-year old male tourist has died after a visit to SeaWorld's Aquatica water park earlier today. The man was found at Roa's Rapids, which is a faster "lazy river". After receiving a 911-call about a near drowning, Orange County Fire Rescue responded to the park, where the park's lifeguard staff had CPR in progress. Paramedics took over CPR and said he was unresponsive at 11:12 am, but had improved by the time they reached nearby Dr. Phillips Hospital. The man was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly before noon.

The man's name has not been released, but the Orange County Sheriff's Office has said that he was a visitor to the park and that his residence was outside the United States. The ride was closed for an hour and reopened earlier this afternoon.

A statement from the Sheriff"s Office said, "Information regarding cause of death is currently being withheld until the Medical Examiner makes a determination."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but he didn't really die at SeaWorld if he had improved at the hospital, he died at the hospital.

Technically he died twice as CPR is only administered in the absence of vital signs, meaning death. CPR could have regained vitals en route to the hospital where he was officially pronounced.
But hey, I'm not a doctor nor do I play one on TV, just trying to remember what they teach us at the bi-annual CPR and First Aid course.
Sympathies to the family.
