Would you like to see Walt Disney's own personal apartment that he lived in on Main Street? That to me alone is worth seeing and you get to see that during the tour.
If you're a big Walt Disney fan, I'd say take the tour. If you're kind of nonchalant about the history of the park/Walt Disney, then you wouldn't miss out on the tour. Another great thing about the tour is you get to skip some lines for rides. Since you have an extra three days for the parks, I don't think the tour would put a damper on your trip. It shouldn't be a problem. Are you planning on seeing EVERYTHING at Disneyland and California Adventure? Is this a one time trip?

Your welcome! I'm a former Disneyland Cast Member, so this is cool.
Since this will be your only time, do the tour! I don't think you'll regret it.
If you can, try and catch a Musical Chairs with Alice and Hatter showing during your trip. It's on Main Street. Although it's usually a kids-only thing, it's a lot of fun to watch and sometimes you'll get another random character to join in.Of course, make sure to catch the fireworks, Fantasmic!, and World of Color. I hope your trip will be memorable.
