OOOOOOOOOOOk...even tho this tutorial is going to seem pointless when you get your hands on Photoshop 7 and get to play with the new "Healing" brush (which i am planning on writing a tutorial on also), this one is for you folks with any older version...the buttons may be in different places, but it works the same.

So, lets look at an image that needs a LOT of work....As you can see by the red arrows, there are pleanty of places that need to be "touched up" or just plain removed.

So How would you get rid of them? Why...the rubber stamp tool of course! What does this tool do? What does it look like?

The rubber stamp tool is more like a "cloneing" brush. It takes part of the image that you choose as a SOURCE, and then copies it in real time as you paint in another location. Dont understand? You will....

Here is what it looks like in Photoshop 7..but its the same icon (only more rigid looking) in all other versions...

Ok...so lets dig right into this image and fix the easiest problem first. The way the rubber stamp tool works is that you ALT+Click (meaning press the alt key as you click) and choose the "source"...the source should be a spot on the picture that 1.) Has no blemeshes and 2.) is the same color as the spot you want to fix. In THIS picture, Its easy to find a source...I marked the one *I* used with a red X in the picture below.... (that means, thats where I Alt+Clicked)..you may want to make sure you are using a brush thats not too big or too small..a medium...about a 12ish in size or so should be fine.

Oook...so far so good..but how do we use that to FIX this picture? Easy...now that you have the SOURCE defined, you are going to use it to "paint" over the undesired area. What THAT means, is without holding down alt..just paint as normal over the blemish. If you did it correctly...you should see that you have 2 "paint" icons..one thats showing you where you are currently painting, and one that shows you were its taking the info from. In the image below..i marked the 2 areas...the "source" in green...and the blemish (where i am painting) in red.

The end result...as you can see below..is flawless. Easy enough right? Cool..now practice on the other ones that are in the "sky" , using a different source for every "section" so that it matches, and then we will move on to the more "complex" sections such as the trees and building.

Looking at the image below you will notice 2 things. First, that the sky is now "clear" from blemished, and second, that i marked off areas that still need to be touched up..but are in far more complicated locations.

So how do we go about fixing these? Well..its actually not that hard, with a bit of practice.

First thing you will want to do is lower the brush size down so that it is smaller than before and thus more "percise" when you clone. Now you are probobly thinking "Now i cant even SEE my brush, how am I supposed to get accurate cloning from this?" ...well..this is where "Zoom" comes into play. Using the magnif77ying glass tool..zoom it about 300% and you will see that it makes it a LOT easier to see the blemishes and where you can take a source from. Then what you will do is basically choose a source, use it briefly, then choose another..over and over. You should use on average about 10 sources for every section you want to fix. The end result is ALWAYS worth the effort. As you can see below...

So where did I take my sources from? I marked off the general areas of where I alt+clicked in the pic below..with little red dots. You can see that i went all over the place to match colors, but it was the best way to get it to look "flawless"

If you had problems understanding HOW the tool works, play with it a bit and you will see what I mean. This is not really an "easy" process for a beginner, but will quickly become less of a headache with time. I hoped this helped..if not..im sorry..hehe

 I take it you were a beta tester? :P

Any idea when the official release date is? I keep seeing offers to pre-order it but I haven't heard anything about the date of release... It seems to me that they first announce a release about a month or two before the actual date to drum up interest... All I can say is thank God for upgrade discounts! ;)

Actually...Yes I AM a beta tester..hehe..of course that wouldnt stop me from getting it from other means if necessary...

Last i heard that they are going to release the MAC version first (in about 2 weeks) and then about 2 weeks after THAT they were going to unleash the PC one...Photoshop has a habit of appearing out of nowhere...I remember when 6 came out and no one really knew about it....so who know ;)

Upgrade discounts are good, but being Certified is better...you should look into it..I get my 7 for only 130 bucks when its officially out.

Cal..nice job..you may want to take the blur tool and do a bit of "blurring" on parts of the sky that are very obviously stamped (dont worry..I do it too)

And yes..adobe is CHEAP...they charge testers and anyone else for the program..maybe because its a global beta program and everyone and their dog can get a copy if they just ask ;)
