Here's some Disneyland updates from westcoaster.net This is fabulous news about TOT, seeing how it's going to have it's own special charm seperate from MGM. Here it is:

Just a few notes about Disney, their plans and what's going on with WDI, things have been a little slow lately... but a bunch of stuff happened these last few days... and we'll share.

DCA - Tower of Terror - A few artists conceptions were shown of the new ride. It's going to be seen from EVERYWHERE. Different look, lighter in color. The right side (I believe) will feature a dome and the left side will have a more traditional spire-ish top. The sign itself is being moved up and to the right, not in front of the drop shaft. Looks great!

DCA - Flik's Fantasy Faire/A Bug's Land - Well, depending who you talk to it's one of those two names, however, one of the heads of WDI called it "Flik's Fantasy Faire" in the town hall. Very nice... the rides are all done very well, the only concept art not shown was for the Tuck 'n' Roll bumper car attraction.

DCA - Misc - Expect an "official" announcement from Resort brass on DCA's anniversary (February 8th) for Tower and Bug's Land.

Pooh debacle - To clone Tokyo, or not to clone Tokyo... here are the reasons. Yes, Tokyo has a "wow" factor, Florida also has high-repeat business while being based on a more traditional system. The Disneyland Resort really has to spread one budget between two parks. So, instead of spending 80-100 million on a trackless version of Pooh, they shifted the budget to allow Tower of Terror and it's "improvements" move forward.

Disneyland's 50th Anniversary - Well, a restating the 5 attractions they want to redo; Small World, Space Mountain, Pirates, Haunted Mansion and Jungle Cruise. Concept art was shown... for only Pirates!! But hey... check this out! Okay... the battle scene between the ship and the fort... bye-bye. Instead, we'd now have two ships... you're right in the middle of them... and to transition into the next scene, you float through a giant fire-breathing skull (think the fire effect from Indy in Tokyo). If this is the scale of things they want to do for the 50th, I say GO FOR IT!! I dig these sorts of additions and changes!

Just a comment on the "Pooh" (god i hate saying that)...

I have ridden the one in Tokyo..and there is NOOOOOOOO way disney will fork out that amount of cash to put one in any other park (since they dont fun the tokyo parks..the skys the limit)..the ride is the most advanced system I have ever ridden on...those who have ridden it can also confirm it...theres a point where you start to spin seemingly out of control..and you just barely miss slamming into the other cars...very impressive...

Not exactly!

These will have a LOT more themeing and the area around it will be similar to Honey I Shrunk The Kids Backlot in MgM.

J.E. -

i think Grizz was referring to the tie-ins at WDW version that includes popular (well, at the time) music and tie-ins to Lion King and Alladin by adding Zazu and Iago. I think the WDW version is flat out lame, especially when compared with the DL version. Seeing as how this was the first audio-animatronic attraction - at least in concept - I think they need to retain at least one original, but it would be great if they could restore the WDW version to it's previous glory as well...

Zeke was referring to a possible Lilo and Stich tie-in into the ORIGINAL, DL Tiki Room...which means there would be no original left.

However, I really wish that all the tiki rooms would go back too...makes me wanna cry... :D

Disneyland opened July 17,1955 so the 50th anniversary will oficially be July 17, 2005, but of course the celebartion will probably last the entire year.

Bug's Town will be kind of like Chester and Hesters, but I'd think of it more like a Toon Town, only themed to a Bugs Life charecters instead of all the toons (what the Bugs charecters has to do with a California themed park, I'll still never get), but it will add some attractions for the younger kids at least.
