Don't let the name fool you! Living here in Escondido, so close to the boarder, there are great authentic mexican places on every street corner (just like Seattle with coffeehouses). I had a favorite place my family has been going to for over 20 years and you know what? It's no longer my favorite! Not by a LONG shot! EAT AT JOE'S if you like mexican food!
I was skeptical. I mean, "Tortilla Joe's?" Come on! It doesn't even have a mexican name (unlike my old fav "Hernandez Hideaway"). But we slipped into the cantina. My DH had a pricey margarita, but he loved it (Sorry - I don't remember which one), but my pink lemonade was decidedly "pink" - nothing authentic about it. We decided to play it safe and ordered chicken taquitos and a pair of tamales off the appetizer menue. And all I can say is... WOW! The food was very good (the chicken tamale was EXCELLENT).
So- to all you mexican lovers (not taco bell loves, MEXICAN FOOD lovers), EAT AT JOES! Tortilla Joes that is.
