This is a continuation of a thread drift.

Directed to Dolbyman:
My screenname on that website is the same as here: SewIn2Disney

Can I start off with a stupid question:
What is a torrent?

If I want to see some of the Travel Channel Specials (we don't get the travel channel where I live) do I have to figure out the other website (is in mirc?)

Thank you so much for your help, I'm sure I'm going to have a lot of questions.

found you .. you registered 4 weeks ago though :animwink:

What is a torrent?
a torrent is a small file that contains a file hash, ( a calculated hexdecimal number that identifies every file), a tracker node (our page) and I think some error correction data.

when you download this torrent(from our site) and insert it into your torrent programm your torrent program connects to our site and requests a lists of sources (the other computers that are uploading downloading it)
then it tries to connect to those and starts downloading

i think the travel chennel specials are amongst the most demanded ones .. I could upload them one by one to the tracker so you (and all other peeps) can download them from there ..

you could also give the mirc stuff another try .. there you have those for downloading all the time (but you have to queue and wait till it's your turn)

The way bit torroents work is you first download the "torrent" file which is a very small file that tells your bit torrent program how to download the file. So once you have the file downloaded, you would open the file with your bit torrent software. Or if given the option to open or save the file in your web browser, it's best to just choose open, and then select your bit torrent software.

You can find ALL of the travel channel shows in MIRC, and when I last looked, I belive there were 2 or 3 of them on the torrent website. If you want more of them, post a message in the request catagory on the wdwresorttv.com/tracker and either myself, (skull) on the other site, or someone else will post them on the torrent site.

Have any other questions, fell free to ask! :)

EDIT: bah, you beat me to it Dolby! :)

I did register awhile back.....I was at school, and had a computer geek with me, so I figured between the two of us, we could figure it out. But.....no such luck. I'm also registered at mirc, but that was probably over a year ago, and I haven't been back.
One of these days, i'll get it.
I'll have to look at a list of Travel Channel Specials to see which ones I haven't seen. (When I lived at college, we got Travel Channel, so I've seen some, just not the more recent ones.)

Now for another question: If (and that's a big if) I get something downloaded, can I burn it onto a CD? I don't have a dvd burner, just a CD burner, so I'm assuming then i would only be able to watch it on my computer.

You can burn videos onto CD in VCD(Video-CD) or SVCD(Super Video-CD) that *most* DVD players will play. Nero will do this (and usually converts the file into said format as well)

well the if is not so big .. cause my stats show me you already downloaded your first file (dare devil epcot)

sure you burn it as plain iso (just as the file is on your pc) or you convert it for your dvd player but this would be a topic of its own (a large one)
