Agreed! I don’t blame people for preferring the elevation of the top deck, it’s human nature. I expect it to be the more popular choice.

But from the bottom I actually feel immersed, like I’m on a river. The scenes unfold before you naturally, and you can better appreciate the staging. .
Exactly. As a kid, when I didn’t really value aesthetics and theming as much, I preferred the top deck. The older I got, the more I started preferring the bottom deck. I enjoy the details.

The Mark Twain holds a special place in my memories. Almost 60 years ago (of course, this was at Disneyland and long enough ago that there were tickets for the rides), I was chatting with some Navy sailors on leave who were spending their time at Disneyland and right then were on the Mark Twain next to me. We were having a great time circling the Rivers of America. Suddenly, I looked around and the whole group of them had vanished. That was ok. I was just a random kid they didn't know. I was still having a great time, ... when a hidden door popped open right next to me, and it was one of my new friends. "C'mere," he said, beckoning me up the stairs behind the door. Their friend, who had just gotten out of the Navy, was piloting, and I got to steer the Mark Twain around the Rivers of America (it's a realistic wooden ship's wheel) and blow the whistle (with a pull-cord)! Thanks to some Navy guys who looked out for a little kid when they didn't need to. And then, after the ride was over, they said they were leaving and gave me a whole wad of unused tickets, including a bunch of E tickets so I could go on more of the big rides. But first I spent some time in the shooting arcade, using up the A tickets. :) Not all the magic at Disney comes from cast members.

So the top deck for me!

Am I a top or bottom?

Well...

The top deck is flat out unbearable in the sun when it's hot and midday seems to be the only time I've ever gone on this ride. Does anyone ever ride this earlier? You're usually going for E Tickets and such, and once you've exhausted those and lines get long, you go to standbys line Mark Twain, Tiki Bird Show and The Treehouse.

Top deck. In addition to the fresh air and views, I like watching the paddlewheel and feeling the mist drifting down from the stern stacks.

Freakin’ stupid Galaxy’s Edge... grumblegrumble...
