According to The Standard Daily News in HK..

Disneyland and the government say "it is too early" to talk about a third theme park, but have not ruled out the plan.
In addition to the proposed second theme park, Hong Kong Disneyland's third theme park will be at the east site of Phase II, according to the Legco paper released by Panel on Economic Services in April this year.

"To keep open the possibility of a third theme park, HKITP (Hong Kong International Theme Park) has sought a right of first refusal to buy that site at the then prevailing market price and on normal lease terms," the paper says.

Right of first refusal, legislator and barrister Audrey Eu explained, means that if the government wanted to sell the land and Disneyland did not want to buy, the government had the right to sell to others, which gives the government greater flexibility.

In reclaiming land for the second theme park, the government gave Disneyland an option to buy.

"The option gives Disney more rights," Eu said. "Disney is able to exercise the right to buy within 20 years. But the government has to wait for such a long time to sell the land if Disneyland does not build the second theme park in the end."

Reclamation for Phase II is 30-40 percent complete and is expected to be finished in 2008.

Phase II, the site of the proposed new second park, is expected to open in 2010, Financial Secretary Henry Tang said Tuesday.

The reclamation area of Phase II is 54 hectares and the area of the first theme park is 70ha.

This is getting ridiculous.....no wait I'm sorry, this is already ridiculous!
Smallest MK, not really that many rides, JUST opened last week and they are already coming up with things for a 2nd and a 3rd theme park.
:brick: :brick: :hammer:

Call me crazy here but shouldnt we wait to see how well HKDL does financially and attendance wise. Not to mention finish the darn thing BEFORE we even begin to remotely think about a second park and then see how that one does before we even begin to think about a third park.
This is looking bad.

Talk about "jumping the gun"! :animwink:

WDW didn't get it's 2nd theme park (EPCOT Center) until October 1, 1982, exactly 10 years after The Magic Kingdom and all of WDW opened. Disneyland Resort had to wait over 45 years for it's 2nd gate, California Adventure. Hong Kong must be theme-park crazy!!!!! :animwink:

It doesn't even make sense to talk about expansion yet. Don't they want people to come now??? Save expansion news to draw people back later. Talking about a 2nd and 3rd park at this stage is absolutely ludacris and bad business!

Actually, it was exactly 11 years. MK opened in 1971. :p

THAT should be easy as pie..
It only needs a few merchandise stores and meet & greets!!! No rides... Rides only exist to keep the motor running for the merchandise...

When Disneyland Paris opened, there were already plans to open the Disney MGM studio's in 1995 or 1996 at least.

It's a shame they didn't, maybe we could have gotten also the most beautiful studio's park together with the most beautiful Magic Kingdom (the contrast now is quite big)

Two reasons why Disney is moving so quickly with the Hong Kong sites are that:

A: Iger has already stressed that he wants Disney to have an extremely large presence in Asia, becuase it is emerging with great economies, and people have money to spend.

B: Look at the time frame on how long it takes to get the land reclaimed. Phase II won't be Disney's until 2008. The park won't be open until 2010. That gives Disney five years, to work on the improvement of HKDL, so the Frontierland (outside of the berm) will probably be there. They will have Autopia next summer. They might get an Indiana Jones, and they are planning a Pirates/Splash Mountain attraction, it's a small world is also on the horizon. So, HKDL should be self-sustained by the time the new park opens.

yes..i believe so.

China is a huge market with lots of potential. Just look at Macau, Macau has already surpassed Las Vegas in terms of Revenue from gambling last year. There are lots of development in Macau, Venetian of Las Vegas is going to build Venetian of Macau with Casino, Convention Centre, Shopping Centre etc. Wynn is also building a Wynn Resort in Macau. There will be more than a dozen new hotels appearing on a new strip of reclaimed land in Macau. There might also be a new Hongkong-Macau-Zhuhai Bridge to link up HK, Macau and Zhuhai in the Pearl River Delta region.

So in the Pearl River Delta region, there is HK Disneyland in HK, Las Vegas of the East in Macau. :)
