Tony Baxter tours Rivers of America

I was with some friends from San Diego in Disneyland this evening, and we had that new salmon salad at the Harbour Galley which was surprisingly good.

As we walked back towards Splash Mountain with our Fastpass around 8:00PM we saw a raft motoring upriver past the Canoe docks, which was odd, especially at that time of evening. The Canoes and Columbia and Rafts had all closed for the night, and only the Mark Twain was running around the river but it had already gone by.

The raft was being driven by a CM wearing the Mark Twain Riverboat uniform, which also looked odd like they had just pulled a kid off the Mark Twain who knew how to drive a raft. On the raft was a small collection of management types in nametags, and at the front of the raft was a familiar face; Tony Baxter.

The raft turned around the river while Tony was talking to the suits pointing at the island and using sweeping hand gestures. The raft slowed down and stopped as it got in front of the settler's cabin, and Tony was really talking up a storm while the suits listened. The raft drifted around the bend in the river and I lost sight of them, but it was obvious Tony was taking a group of TDA folks on a tour of the Rivers of America and he had a lot to say.

The Rivers of America is rumored to close for rehab this winter, and be drained and such. I wonder what Tony has up his sleeve as the Senior VP Imagineer in charge of everything in Disneyland???

Interesting theres a few things I can think of that can happen during the refrub. Maybe more stuff for Pirates Lair is the first thing that I can think of, I mean they did add whats there now with out the river being drained.

I would also think Fantasmic! would get its fountains refurbished since the last big one on them was in 03, the last time the river went down. Plus what ever else they would need to do to it while its down.

Plus ROA could always use a nice cleaning.
