Tonga Toast - Kona's vs RFC

After looking at menus for Kona's at the Poly and Rain Forest Cafe at Animal Kingdom I noticed that the Tonga toast were different. I have read great reviews about it at Kona's but nothing about it at the RFC. Are they the same meal? How do they compare?

Rain Forest Cafe - Tonga Toast - Baked cinnamon French toast with warm maple syrup surrounded by fresh strawberries and bananas and topped with walnuts. $8.99

Kona's - Tonga Toast - banana stuffed sourdough bread, rolled in cinnamon-sugar with choice of ham, bacon, or sausage $7.99

I've never had the RFC version, but the true original Tonga Toast is from the Poly! We have the cookbook and have made it several times on the weekend!:slurp:

RFC's is the best. You also get bacon or sausage with it. It is so good. I want it right now.:slurp: :slurp: :slurp: :slurp: :slurp: :slurp: :slurp: :slurp: :slurp:

The Tonga toast from the Poly is out of this world. I raved about it so much that our waitress gave me a copy of the recipe! I never had anything like it before!

Stuffed French Toast
(The Tonga)

2 slices sourdough bread, 1" thick
1 fresh banana
1/3 cup sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 egg
1/4 cup milk
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
shortening or oil for frying
whipped butter and maple syrup (optional)

Cut a 2" pocket in one side of each bread slice, cut banana in half crosswise, then split in each piece lengthwise, Remove the peel and stuff 2 pieces in each pocket of bread. Set aside.

*If slices of bread are small, use 4 slices and stuff 1 piece of banana in each pocket.

Mix sugar and cinnamon. Set aside. Mix egg, milk, and vanilla together until well blended.

Heat approximately 4 inches of oil in pan to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Dip stuffed bread into egg and milk mixture, soaking a few minutes to allow batter to penetrate bread. Fry in hot oil until light brown. About 3 minutes, turning to brown both sides. Drain on paper towels on cake rack. Serve at once, sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon. If desired, spread with whipped butter and serve with maple syrup.

Yield: 2 Servings

NOTE: to make 4 servings, double only the amount of bread, banana, egg, milk, and vanilla extract.
