Tomorrowland...

Maybe this belongs in the imagineering thread, but it's struck me recently that there has been a lot of recent IP's that focus on the future and space travel and would make a great fit for Tomorrowland in MK (which I think could use some love):

-Tomorrowland movie (George Clooney)
-Miles from Tomorrowland (Disney Jr- they even report to the TTA)
-New Star Wars Acquisition
-Guardians of the Galaxy and possible sequel
-Walle (not really new, I know)

Has anyone seen an influence of any of these in the park from a merchandising or character standpoint? Would love to see more characters to meet or...gasp....new ride experiences.

I mean, Stitch can go without complaint, right? And Monster's really isn't a great fit, is it?

Any chance Tomorrowland will get some love? Maybe when the hub expansion is over?

I'd much prefer Tomorrowland 1994's Retro-Metro city instead of shoehorning more IPs into it.

Star Wars belongs at DHS, Wall-E could go to Epcot....and Guardians of the Galaxy can go to Epcot, too, as a 4D short to replace Captain EO.

I'm not saying they all should go into Tomorrowland, or that it should be IP heavy, it just seems like there is a lot of focus on space travel and brands that would either fit the TL setting or use it as direct inspiration (Clooney movie and Miles from Tomorrowland). Seems too much to ignore. Just curious what others thought...

Yesss!!!!!!!!! I think had that movie performed better we would see more of a tie-in. GREAT message (keep moving forward, things get better, your family in the future could be amazing so don't settle now, etc) but the movie is a bit jumbled for my tastes....

I wish they could at least do Ghost Galaxy but, rather than a seasonal attraction...I would love to see them utilze the Projection system on the Mountain..

And here's the entire projection show..

It makes sense to do that, but by the same token, I feel like a lot of their Disney Junior shows have been targeted towards their MK lands with their theming: Fantasyland - Sofia the First and The 7D; Frontier Land - Sheriff Callie; Tomorrowland - Miles from Tomorrowland; Adventureland - Jake and the Neverland Pirates. But, for whatever reason, they've either not incorporated them at all or they've kept them at DHS??

I think it's time for a "new" Tomorrowland. The current iteration has been around for almost 21 years, but I guess that pales in comparison to DLR's Tomorrowland 1967's 30 years. I don't even know anymore, just give me some new attractions, possibly new decor as well. Well, then again, Tomorrowland '71 at MK lasted for 23 years so going by WDW standards it's almost time for an update.

From Disney's perspective, all the Tomorrowland attractions are fairly new, so probably not.

Space Mountain? (besides the defurb)
Carousel of Progress?
TTA?
Speedway?
Astro Orbiter?

Those are some pretty hefty pieces of real estate that have been around for a looong time in Tomorrowland. If they see any of those as new then I have a "new" 1973 Ford Pinto with 273K on the odometer and light body damage on the front end I want to sell for $15k too ;) (JK...Pinto's never made it to 273K)

Sure there has been some of what Disney considers sprucing up but not new, groundbreaking or fresh by any stretch other than some neon and facade work outside.

Not to be a stickler about these things, but with regards to Star Wars in Tomorrowland, does not Star Wars begin with "...A long time ago...."? That doesn't really make me think of the future.

Honestly, there's a lot of things in Star Wars that don't make sense if you put too much thought into them.

Star Wars isn't sci-fi. It's space fantasy ala' Buck Rogers or John Carter (which, by the way, is a solid movie and without it and Burroughs there wouldn't be a Star Wars).
Anyway, the land's powers-that-be just needs to decide if-
1) It will be a place of science fantasy or science fact/probablitity/possibility. Think Arthur C Clarke vs. Edgar Rice Burroughs. If it tries to serve both masters, the message and theme gets confused. Then
2) Pick a 'timeless' look, like the new "Tomorrowland" movie seems to have and design, color and theme it accordingly.
3) Base your attractions around 1 and 2, keeping in mind existing IP that the company has either developed or has in the pipeline.

I think that the land has been schizo at times in the past and just a mish mosh. Pick a theme and feel and be consistent.

I think that, despite some of the not so good design choices, Tomorrowland '94 was a very good move on Disney's part. I'm surprised they have not found a consistency with the land. All of the lands are steeped in a dramatized nostalgia that works. i.e. Adventureland is pirates and turn of the century colonialization. They need to stick to a clear theme. Hopefully this movie will change things. That being said: I think WDW's Tomorrowland is one of the best. I'm glad Star Wars is staying its distance. Doesn't fit.
