Tolls-how much?

Hi, we are driving for the first time to WDW this weekend, and were wondering how much the tolls cost that we might encounter. We're traveling from north of Atlanta. Thanks!

We go from Columbus which is south of Atl. We don't hit any tolls until we get to the turnpike. We usually hit a 2.50 and a .75 toll booth. However, I think they went to 3.00. We always carry five dollars in quarters and a few ones for the tolls. Coming back in April, we somehow got on a new road and paid an extra toll to get back where we should have been.

For the turnpike you will need $3 each way. For 429 you will need $1.50 each way. ($9 total for roundtrip.) And both roads have toll booth operators, in case you need change.

Tuvalu... I'm pretty sure we paid a toll at an unmanned booth on our trip in January. I just don't recall which one.

There is always an unmanned one for exact change in addition to a staffed booth. Of course, we always travel during the early morning or daytime. Perhaps the booth is not staffed during the wee hours of night?

There are a few toll stops with no booth, just a bucket into which you toss change.

There are even exits off the highways that don't take cash at all. You can't exit without a SunPass...well, you could, but you'd be looking at a $100 fine. None of the "SunPass only" exits are anywhere near tourist areas. :)

OP, if you're driving around Orlando, always keep some singles and a bunch of quarters with you. It's easy to get lost in an unfamiliar place and you don't want to sit there filling out a form because you didn't have $1.25 :)

This was day time... but, things could have changed. We have learned to always carry exact change for toll booths, after the close scare (had to scrounge to find the change). I wish Florida had a web page to pay tolls, like Chicago has. I traveled there on business, did not have any change, had to exit through an unmanned both. Fortunately, I saw a sign of how to logon to a web page to pay the toll. Very smart!
You can buy a sticker for like $5 at Publix or on the SunPass site. Once you load the funds, they stay loaded. a year later, you can still use them. You can load it all online. https://www.sunpass.com/indexNoMobile

Almost all (if not ALL) the rental car companies are set up for SunPass, but some charge you for the privilege of using it. If you're renting, check the fees carefully. Sometimes, they'll charge the fee every day even if you only use it once. Once you use it, they charge daily, anywhere from a couple bucks to like $20/day. Depends on the company.

I wish you could use EZ Pass there. :(

There are place around the country that are unmanned 24/7. They are annoying. I have been through ones where I have had to use a credit card at the toll gate. And there are some that either you have a transponder, or you get charged later. In the latter, there are some that are allowing you to log onto a website and pay within a certain amount of time to pay only the toll. IMO, they are very tricky about disseminating knowledge about this option. If you wait until you get it in the mail, it has additional admin fees. I think some of the new ones in VA have something like a $12 admin fee.

This is the absolute best advice from this website I have ever discovered, since I bring a car to WDW way more often than I fly in, or I am known to rent a car after a couple of days trying to make ADR's on time using disney transportation... thank you

If you want something you can move from car to car, they have suction cup thingies, too. They're more expensive than the sticker, though. The sticker has to stay on the car you put it on.

I'll expect my kickback in the mail any day now. ;) :)

I HATE all the tolls I must pay, living in Orlando. But they do, at least, make it easy. I put the sticker on my car, attached a credit card number online and never had to do any more work. When the balance gets low, the computer just charges my card.

I only had to do something when I got a new car and had to change stickers and car info, but even that took all of five minutes.

The tolls suck, but the stickers are nice. :)

UGH, Houston and the toll roads are the same, broke down and got the EZ tag pass this year so I could never again have to worry about having some form of cash in the car or look for alternate routes when the toll road was obvious shortest and quickest route for my destination.

Does the SunPass have a monthly fee on it? Several of the states that use EZPass have a monthly fee on it. I have an old one from a state that did not used to have the fee, so mine is grandfathered. I rarely use it anymore, but I keep it just so that if I did need it, I do not have to pay that additional monthly fee.
