and I agree, seabiscuit, while a good movie, is not oscar worthy compared to big fish. which totally got shut down by the academy. yet surprisingly, POTC:TLP totally surprised me (but are well deserved) in the visual and audio department. cudos to disney on that one!

Seabiscuit is just the type of film the aging Academy voters love. Great story, old fashioned values, an underdog story, historical and good acting.

Haven't seen Big Fish yet. Would it be suitable for a 14 yo and an 11yo, who are Tim Burton fans?

Big Fish would be fine for a 14 and 11 year old. It is a really great movie that reminds me (at times) of Forrest Gump. It's fantastical and moving at the same time.

I think Oscar shunned it because frankly it is just TOO happy of a movie. Oscar doesn't like anything (LOTR aside) unless it is seriously depressing. :) Unless you come out of the theater feeling in despair, Oscar doesn't like you! This is evidenced by the popularity of films like Mystic River and 21 Grams.:D

Thanks for the reply....you've got a point about Oscar and despair, look at Monster, a film I don't think I'll be able to watch.
