Tipping While on Dining Plan

Hey gang,

My wife and I are planning our next trip and had a question about tipping while on the dining plan. Since tips are no longer covered under the dining plan, can you charge your tip to your room? Or, would it be better to just leave cash or use a credit card for it? What's your preferred method? Discuss!

We charged ours back to the room. They need to take your card anyway to get the dining credits from it, so they just did a room charge for the tips.

I find leaving cash easier. Mainly because I don't add charges to my room key.

Also, I like to tip when the transaction is complete. Allows me change the play at the last minute. There a few people that are pushy with trying to get the maxium tip.

We pay for everything on our room key while on our trip - purchases, tips, extras, etc. This keeps everything really organized so that at the end of our trip we know exactly how much we spent while on vacation. This helps us to plan future trip budgets.

Put on room key - easiest way to go and you arn't carrying cash around the parks.

we use the cash way. sometimes debit but i try not to due to possibly having number stolen.

We actually did both on our trip.... Sometimes we'd remember we had the cash to leave as a tip, if not we'd just charge it to the card....

But make sure you let your server know what you are doing....

For example: We were 6 people (2 families), so the resturant put tip automatically and then we divided up between the two families. However, we didn't let the server know, so he ended up charging the tip on our KTTW cards AND we both left a cash tip!!! Thankfully it all got figured out the next day; the front desk person at our hotel was able to remove the two 'extra' tips with no problem. However, the other family had a little more trouble getting it all resolved.... (I dont know why) but their part of the tip was not removed until after they checked out....

So just make sure you let the server know which way you will be tipping....

I prefer to pay with cash for the tip. Much easier and no wait at all. Plus you are truly in control of how much to tip if your server was great to (hope fully never) not so great.

We have done all. We usually charge to the room, but some times we just left a tip with cash. It all depended on how much and our mood.
