Tipping question

This will be the first time we've used the dining plan with the new changes. My question is what do you base the tip on? Do they give a bill with the total cost of your meal so you can compute a tip? Or, do they tell you what the tip would be at 15% and 20%?

...yes

When your bill comes for your meal; on your receipt the total is there for your table and also the suggested tip at 18% and 20%. The receipt is the same for everyone. HTH

So on the new receipts they tell you how much you should tip? I'm guessing thats for our guests from other nations, but to me it just seems tacky. I will tip according to food costs, quality of the service. I'd view that tip price as a guideline. If food/service was above and beyond leave more. If you had issues, you let them know the issues and they still were not resolved, tip less.

it is a suggested tip

I believe it says either "suggested tip" or "optional" tip. Tip is included for parties of 6 or more. It is up to the guest to give the appropriate tip. I like not having to worry about doing the math (I am terrible at math)

Actaully I'm glad someone brought this up because I thought the tips were included! I was there last year with 8 people so I guess the tips were included for us but I'm going again this year and there will only be 2 of us.

I honestly thought all tips were included so I probably would have eaten everywhere and not tipped a cent :o

I generally tip 15% as a rule for good service...less if there are service problems and more if someone is really extraordinary.

Does that sound reasonable for Disney?

Hey there Nova Scotia!!! Last year 18% tips were included in the dining plan, but that has been eliminated for 2008 along with the appetizer. They will calculate the suggested tip amounts of 18% and 20% and include the amounts on the receipt, so you don't have to do the math yourself. What you actually tip will be up to you, and you may leave it in cash, credit card or your room key card, whichever you prefer and whatever amount you think is appropriate.

Just a question, but does Disney pay their waitstaff minimum wage plus tips? Or do they pay typical waitstaff hourly wage (far below minimum wage in most areas)? If they get minimum wage plus tips then I'd say for some sit down restaurants 15% would be a good tip. Just curious. We have used the dining plan in the past with Grand Gatherings where our tips were already included..but we were a party of 36 and those tips were pretty substantial. However, twice we left more than the automatic tip. Once was at dinner at Tony's. Our waiter went above and beyond and made the night very memorable for our Girl Scout Troop!
