Tipping Mousekeeping?

I have not been to WDW since I was in middle school and I have not stayed on site since I was even younger. I am taking my family (wife and two small children) in September and I have read in a couple of places about tipping the mouse keeping service.

Is this necessary, and, if so, what amount is appropriate? Does this help the likelihood of receiving "towel animals" or are towel animals usually just for deluxe resorts? We are staying at All-Star Music.

Maybe I do it backwards I dunno.. but usually when we are checking out we leave a tip.. the past few times we went we got a few towel animals and they keepers put our stuffed animals in the window which was neat so we gave them 20 or 25...

But this last trip in may we didnt get anything fun.. no towel animals.. and our stuffed animals (which we had like 10) never moved.. nothing neat at all.. so we just left 10.

also.. we always stayed at the value resorts.. all star sports and pop century.. and got towel animals 3 of our 4 trips.

I had heard that the rule of thumb is $1.00 per person. There were 3 of us staying at the All Star Movies, so we left 3 dollars each night. I wrote mousekeeping a note asking for a towel animal and sure enough, later that day when we returned to our room, there were two, a bunny rabbit and a bird's nest with two birds in it..so cute. Then, if you had a great stay, you give a little bit extra on your last night.

Before I left, I made up envelopes for Mousekeeping, one for each of our nights stay. I put Disney stickers on them and made up cute sayings for each of the envelopes...

Hope this helps:wave:

We always tip $2 a day, regardless of what resort we stay in. (Just two of us.) Some years we get animal towel, some years we don't.

In the past we had just tipped on the last day, but realized that the cleaning folks changed throughout our stay. We were concerned that only the last mousekeeper was getting the tip.

Where do you put the tip at when you leave for the park in the morning. This Oct. will be our 3rd trip any we have never left a tip before but, then we never got towal animal before either.

We leave a $1 per person tip each morning. We leave it next to the sink, under the card saying the name of the person who made up the room.

We have never had a towel animal in 42 nights on site!

I put it in envelopes with mousekeeping written on it and leave it on the night stand or on the bathroom sink ledge, places where you know they will see it

We have only tipped housekeeping once. We had a really sweet housekeeper at the Contemporary (Magda, if you know her) who remembered us on a visit a year after our first, and left us a note that said, "you are the best guests in the world, <3 housekeeping". We tipped her $20 at the end of our trip. We have recieved towel animals without tipping at other resorts.

Good tips (no pun intended)! I will probably do the envelope thing during our trip.

Any rhyme or reason for receiving towel animals? Better chance during a slower time?

We leave 1 dollar per person and we leave it on the little table with a note thanking them for their great service. We've had towel animals, my dd stuffed animals arranged in the window and a toothbrush holder made out of towels. And we have always stayed at the value resorts. I've never kept them, I'm not sure if you are supposed too. We tip every morning because the mousekeepers change during the trip so I want to make sure everyone gets a tip. Have a great time!!

The tipping a the end of the week thing may be a mistake.

If I'm not mistaken (and someone please correct me if I am) but it's entirely possible to have a different Mousekeeper on your last day than you had for the rest of the week, so if you leave $25 at the end of the week, the new one scores big, while the one who gave you all the fun stuff gets the shaft.

We always tip Mousekeeping. We generally tip $2 a night and we leave it on the sink vanity under the name card mousekeeping leaves.

Those towel animals are great, glad to see other people appreciate them. For some reason when we got our first towel animal (Pop Century) that was the first time I tipped at a resort (I know, cheapskate), I really felt they went above and beyond. They are hard to come by though and I could be wrong with this statement but we've stayed at different resorts on property and the towel animals seem more prevalent at All Stars and Pop. Don't know why though.

I second this question. We're staying in Sept./Oct. and haven't been on site in years. I would think you're not supposed to keep them, but I'd hate to pass one up if you can. ;)

We leave $5/day for the 4 of us. We also put it under the mousekeeper's card on the vanity. We have gotten towel animals in different resorts and when we checked into the BWI there were 3 waiting for us.

It doesn't matter when or if you tip, getting them depends on the mousekeeper and how much time they have or how enthusiastic they are about their job.

autigger, its not mandatory that you tip, but it is customary to tip service workers...mousekeepers, car valet, bellboy, servers, etc.

If you have kids, or just buy toys, LEAVE THEM OUT ON THE TABLE OR SOMETHING -- they will be used. We had a HUGE elaborate window decoration with Belle caught in the curtins and Beast trying to rescue her. It's too cool to fully explain, but they must have had fun!

Our Mousekeeper put our Mickey Balloons in the window. We left them there, as it was nice to see them when we returned each evening...Every morning when we left to go to the parks, DS (2.5), would say"Bye Balloons, see ya Soon!" It was too cute.

We had about 6 Disney plush with us and a couple of cars and the mousekeeper would arrange them real cute each day on son's bed. he loved that....:D

We have tipped and gotten towel animals and stuffed animals arranged and other times gotten nothing the entire trip. As mentioned before, it depends on the mousekeeper. If we have a mousekeeper that leaves towel animals I leave a couple of extra dollars.

While on the tipping subject, I think that the ME bus drivers should be tipped if you bring luggage to the bus. The whole idea behind ME is to get to the resort/airport without your luggage. We take carry-on luggage, and I think we were the only ones that tipped the driver for loading/unlaoding our luggage.
