Tipping at the poolside bar...

So, i know I need to tip (i'm from the UK) but what's the deal with this? Two questions:

1. If I order, say, 2 cocktails at £14 each from the poolside bar, what am I expected to tip the bartender?

2. When we have a pool day I like to not carry anything except lotions, a towel and our refill mug. i.e. no valuables such as wallet, credit cards, cash and just use the magicbands. Can you tip using the band?

Thanks

I'm not sure about number 2, but I think the "standard" tip like meals is 15-18% for good service and 20% for great service.

If you do tip using the band, I think it would just go on your tab like everything else.

So, I order the drinks, receive the drinks, then they give me a paper receipt? I fill in the gratuity like a restaurant then they charge the band?

D

Yep :)
The last time I was at Disney the quick service restaurant at my hotel was closed. When I ordered to-go food from the food area at the pool I didn't tip.. if I order/sitting at the bar and eat, then I tip..or sometimes they bring it to your table.

OK, so $1 per drink is pretty standard but a little more for something like a Lapu Lapu? If I order 2 of those at $28 am I supposed to tip almost $6? That, to me, seems a lot.

I don't like how the tipping threads usually spiral out of control but I just want to know what is considered rude and what is not :)

It's completely at your discretion.. as long as you don't refuse to leave a tip..give them change..or order multiple drinks while leaving $1..then you're good :)
You can also leave your tab open and just add a total tip before you leave, this is what I like to do.

Ahhhh, OK, so if we are spending 3 hours at poolside, I can order drinks at the bar, take them back to where we are lounging and leave the tab open to keep going back and settle up when we leave rather than doing, say, 3 separate transactions on the magic band?

Thanks

Tipping for drinks in the US is standard. However, tipping 15-20% is ridiculous. A beer is $7. I am not tipping $1 for them to open the twist top on the alumibottle. I run a tab. If we have 4-6 drinks, we will tip $2-$3. After that first $7 for a beer though, buying an 8-pack at the gas station for $8 makes it a ton easier.

OP - I usually do $2 per drink ... If I am sitting around the pool for a while and me and hubby are getting a few drinks over the course of a couple hours sometimes I will just leave a flat out $20 and let the bartender know that's for the day. Tipping on the band is no problem, the money will not get taken out of your account until the night before check out.

Everyone else - I hope this thread does not spin out of control. It is a simple question for someone who is not familiar with our tipping system.
