Time Share - Boarwalk, etc. auction question

Hi, next year we are going back to WDW and instead of doing the Grosvenor thing again, although we are perfectly pleased with it, hubby noticed some auctions listing time shares/nights at various Disney Vacation Club locations. Are these legitimate? Is there an official place where folks who want to "rent out" their timeshare for a particular time period can do so? I know virtually nothing about the Boardwalk (except how fantastic the Jelly Roll show is - we go every trip!) and Port Orleans.... I just dont want to pay someone for a week at a time-share and get there only to find it was a scam.

I would go to www.wdwinfo.com and go to their discussion forums. There is a forum for renting points from a Disney Vacation Club owners. I guess it takes a certain amount of trust on your part. But if you are not planning on going for awhile, you can research the DVC rent/trade board for a few months and make a more informed choice. Good luck.

I can’t really help you with the time share thing but as far as the Boardwalk I have found is not all its cracked up to be at the price they charge. The Boardwalk it self is great (Jellyrolls is the best club on the planet) but I found the standard rooms to be very overpriced when compared to the other hotels like Animal Kingdom Lodge, the Polynesian etc. Now unless things have changed since we looked at the DVC the smallest standard room is a 1 room suite which is much better than a standard room. However you can get Savanna rooms at AKL for around $190 per night with an AP or FR discount. The rooms are smaller and they don’t have kitchens but the price is much less than buying DVC points. Not to mention there is zero risk of being taken for a ride when you reserve directly with Disney.

Just food for thought…..

I would never purchase an auction for DVC. I would, however, follow the link previously given and rent directly from a member there, except someone named Nuthut (total rip off artist). You do not pay tax on these point rentals. Most rent the points somewhere between 10-12 per point.
I believe a week at OKW in say Jan or Sept. in a studio is 80 points. That would cost you 800.00 at 10.00 per point. As nice as AKL is, I would prefer the studio at OKW. Bigger room, microwave, fridge, toaster and a few other nice things. A one bedroom in the same time frame would be 1600.00. The unit is huge. Full kitchen, BIG vita bath, king bed, pull out sleeper in the living room. Just a wonderful place.

I'll chime in here as we are currently staying at Boardwalk (BW). The rooms are pretty average, a small cut above what you'd get at Port Orleans Riverside perhaps. A fair amount of nitelife on the Boardwalk and some decent places to eat. The absoulte best thing about BW is its location, its location and its location. If you really like EPCOT then you cannot beat BW. Its a 5min walk into the World Showcase from your room. You can watch Illuminations from the England - France bridge and then turn arround and be back in your room in 5 mins or so. Staying here lets us spend our afternoons - eves at EPCOT which we really love. If EPCOT is a fav then BW or Yacht/Beach Club is the place to be.

best,

Now I don't know for sure, but I think you are talking about renting points to stay in a Boardwalk DVC room from a DVC member. If so, check out disboards.com and scroll down the the DVC Rent/Trade board.
Rent/Trade

Here you can post a message or find out contact information from a DVC member "selling points". Also note the sticky on how this works and look at the DVC chart calculator.

Now from my personal experience, this has worked wonderful! As long as you plan ahead and there is availability at the Boardwalk for the time you want. Some of these members are happy to provide references and such. Of course, there is always a trust issue, but from myself and my parents who rented points, we had no problems even though we were worried. I would use this for all my trips if I could!

Hope this helps!

Yes DVC members can and do rent their points they don't need or can't use that year out for around $10 apoint.

These points can be used at BWV, BCV, VWL, or OKW and now the new SSR. (along with the very wonderful off property resorts of Vero Beach and Hiltin Head.)

Since you are interested in BWV I will give you some idea of how much it costs to stay there.

Magic season is most of Feb, March April (not easter week) June, July and Aug and Nov 134 a week for a studio (1,340 for the week) Points are more on the weekend it would cost 62 points less to skip Fri- Sat. The only other time it would cost more is Holiday (easter and Christmas week.) All other times it would cost less. There is standard view at BWV that is less points, but they can be difficult to get and normally people who own there book them 1st.

BW has one and 2 bedroom vaction homes and grand villas too. A one bedroom during magic season is 270 a week. Both studios and one bedrooms hold up to 4 people over the age of 3. Under 3 don't count. There is no extra charge for over 2 adults. 2 Bedrooms hold 8 people total (often they are a one bedroom and a studio put together, 350 points during magic.)

It cost DVC members about 5$ per point (when you add it all up and divide by 40, or at least it does for us. It tends to be differernt depending on when you buy.)

Warning, once you stay in DVC, you won't want to go anywhere else.

Hi! I bought a week off of ebay from a DVC member for $700 at the Old Key West resort, and everything went smoothly. It was great, easy and cheap. Just make sure they are Squaretrade verified.

As someone who just did this in September, first off, yet - It's legit (at least the one I did.)

Was it worth it - No. And keep in mind we only paid $500 for 5 nights for a studio at Old Key West.

As I've said before, I disliked OKW first of all. Secondly, staying as a DVC "guest" keep in mind, there are only drawbacks. Now this isn't a knock against DVC or it's members, but trust me - If you're not in the DVC, there is NO reason to stay as a DVC guest.

Of course, I've never stayed at Boardwalk or Wilderness, so I can't give an opinion on those 2. But if you're looking for a good vacation spot, go for Pop Century or the All Stars. Better service, better buses - You actually feel like you're on vacation.
