Went to see "9" tonight - I think I can honestly say that this was one of the weirdest movies I've ever seen. The family on front of us with 2 little kids got up and left halfway thru. I don't think I'll be adding this one to the collection.

I feel no sympathy for any family taking two young kids to see this movie. What in the h3ll where they thinking? Can't they read? A brief synopsis of the movie would suggest that it's not suitable for young children.

Besides, it's not like Tim Burton is known for children's films. Basically all of his films have a dark, surrealistic feel.

What was it about?

from IMDb:

When 9 first comes to life, he finds himself in a post-apocalyptic world where all humans are gone, and it is only by chance that he discovers a small community of others like him taking refuge from fearsome machines that roam the earth intent on their extinction. Despite being the neophyte of the group, 9 convinces the others that hiding will do them no good. They must take the offensive if they are to survive, and they must discover why the machines want to destroy them in the first place. As they'll soon come to learn, the very future of civilization may depend on them.

The worst thing was, they spent 10 minutes in the lobby convincing their son (probably around 7) that the movie wasn't scary at all. Reminded me of the parents at Disney telling their kids that they'll love the Tower of Tower when the kids are obviously about ready to wet their pants from being scared.

I think I'd find something else to spend $30 on before I take my kids to a movie that I'm going to have to leave in the middle of.

now I knew really nothing about this movie other than it looked "kiddish", was animated and looked strange. On a first judgement I would have assumed it was a movie to take kids to as well. oopps. It doesn't matter to me either way as I will not be seeing it.

It's not fair at all to call this "Tim Burton's New Movie," since the whole thing, from the character designs to the plot was nearly the work of one man, Shane Acker.

If you haven't seen it yet, and if you're an animation fan and won't be taking kids with you, you probably should, I would recommend watching the original short film on Youtube. The movie is little more than a longer, fleshed-out version of that.

I can't say really good things about the movie's story, music, or voice acting, but the character designs and animation make up for them. It really is that good.

The animation is really good. Visually, a really enjoyable movie. The story wasn't bad by any means. Not a Pixar, feel good movie but enjoyable non the less. Myself, my 10 yr old son and my 65 yr old Dad all enjoyed it... :D
