I have piurchased tickets in different manners in the past and recall there being different abilities when doing this... When I have pre-purchased tickets for a discount on the internet via a third party vendor I believe I was unable to tie these into my room card keys. Is this correct or are there pro's and con's to purchasing tickets through a source like AAA?

If you buy tickets through Disney, you can turn your booking into a package (adding the dining plan) if you wanted.
If you buy your tickets through a vendor, you save money. However, you can't make your booking a package. So, you are just paying for a room and meals as you go.
I have always been able to get my family's tickets (from a 3rd party vendor) put onto our KTTW cards. I go to the Concierge Desk when they are not slammed and I ask politely (not that I would ever ask any other way
). I've never had an issue. Of course, this is just anectdotal evidence. Other people may have had different outcomes.
