Thunder and Lighting, oh my.. Bad weather at Disneyland currently and forecasted for the February 1-3 weekend

So I am sitting in my home office on the second floor of my house, 3 miles from Disneyland. Has a very large window overlooking West Anaheim, with a view of Knott's Berry Farm, also 3 miles away. Well, the weather right now is steady rain, with Thunder and Lighting every few minutes. And it is supposed to be worse this weekend.

So if you plan to visit this weekend, note that many local passholders dislike the rain (We live in Sunny Southern California for a reason). So the crowds are smaller in size, and a few rides might shut down for safety reasons. But if you wear proper clothing for the weather, it is a fun way to experience the park in a different way.

Hope everyone is doing well and staying warm and safe, especially those dealing with MUCH WORSE weather than we are getting here. Our biggest concern is our recent burn areas created by the recent fires and deadly mudslides.

Well, back to work on prep for a Coyote Management Plan meeting at City Hall tonight, and glancing at Decision Day on MSNBC.

You sure had nice weather for us this weekend, drove down from Montana to see the GNRS in Pomona and it was really great. Glad we got away before this hit.

Glad you had a great time, last weekend is why we put up with the high costs of living in California. Sometimes we forget there are 4 seasons in a year.....

My daughter was looking at the DL app a bit ago and a lot of Disneyland rides were down (outdoor rides as you might expect) but a few enclosed rides were not operating either like Mansion and Indy.

Right now, the only rides on the west side operating are Pirates, Splash and Pooh. Even with a significant number of attractions closed, waits are pretty low right now. DCA with several closures as well though Incredicoaster is open.

Knott's decided to officialy close at 3 PM today, since so many things have been shut down. (3 hours early).

Those with single day tickets will get a return ticket as an apology, even though they have no control of the weather.

Never seen at rain at DL ever...

I have, too many times to count. And sometimes HARD! For the most part, usually not an issue, as most rain in SoCal comes and goes. If it starts to rain a bit heavy, head to an indoor attraction, and usually by the time you exit, it has stopped or gotten lighter.

Meanwhile Illinois has just suffered almost 48 hours with high temps of -15 degrees or so and wind chills as low as -60 degrees. I get that it's all relative, but no one here would flinch at that-especially at DL where most everything is indoors anyway.

I'm not sure what you're trying to get at, but DL would close if it was in IL during that type of weather. So its completely different...

Obviously. I'm just pointing out that what SoCal is experiencing and people are concerned about is relatively mild compared to what much of the rest of the country experiences. If there was rain, thunder, and lightning here, even for an extended period of time, no one would bat an eye.

Just finding it funny that people are panicking about some rain when there was actual severe weather in other parts of the country. That's all.

does knotts stop all their coasters during rain or just if there is lightning?
I believe they actually close the park at times...they actually closed at 3pm today and I've seen days where they just don't open. That being said, I don't know if they close the coasters when it starts raining. Darkbeer is likely the expert on that.

Different region different experiences. So just because IL and the rest of the mid-west is currently under a frozen tundra doesn't have any effect on DLR or its guests during the rain.

DLR also doesn't get hurricanes, should we have the same discussion about DLR when it gets windy compared to WDW?

Unless it's a indoor theme park.

Yep, Great Wolf Lodge does very well this time a year as I understand it.

You’re right, weather is relative.

The rain we’ve been getting recently is abnormal, so it’s completely normal for us to mention it/complain about it. Who’s thinking of the weather in other place when they’re in their own space, cold, hot, or dealing with an abnormal amount of rain and thunderstorms?
