Thrawn's Quick Question and Mini-Trip Report

First the question: Went over to Coronado Springs today for the breakfast buffet at the Maya Grill. On the road that circles the resort that the busses follow, they are doing some major construction, on the land outside of the road. Anyone know what this is? I can go back and take a couple pictures if anyone is interested.

Quick Trip Report Follows:

6/3
Magic Kingdom:
IASW looks amazing. Great job on the rehab.
First time through Philharmagic. Great show.
Hopping Brer Rabbit wasn't working on Splash. Disappointing, but since I know its so common, it didn't bother me too much.
Stitch's Great Escape was decent, and even pretty good if you took it in as a member of the target audience (pictured yourself as a kid)
Went back to Yacht for a while in the middle of the day, then back to MK for the night. Wishes is GREAT! I've watched videos of it before, but, WOW!

6/4
Islands of Adventure:
Hit everything in about two and a half hours. (All the rides, skipped the shows)
Dueling Dragons and Hulk are getting REALLY rough. Lots of head slamming into the headrest.
Many of the dinos on Jurassic Park had holes in them. So Universal can sponsor a wonderful "Jaws month" up on Martha's Vineyard that no one cares about, but can't fix a multi-million dollar theme park attraction?

Universal Studios:
After IoA, went over to US to get both parks taken care of. Did basically everything except for Fear Factor and the shows. Shrek 4D was good, Twister was ok, all the rest I'd been on before. Mummy went down at around 1-2, and was down for the rest of the day. Great, your only new attraction, the one I want to ride, and its broken.

Adventurer's Club:
Went over to AC for the nightcap. Caught the maid's show, and since its gay day's weekend, most of the audience was of the alternate lifestyle. It was the funniest thing I have ever seen. She was hilarious. She played off of and for them, and everyone in the library was rolling with laughter.

6/5
MGM
Started with ToT not running. Don't know why. Eventually I hit it later. Great, as usual.
Went over and checked out the SWW stuff. First time I've ever been to one. I thought it was great, they do quite a bit of work for it. The kids dueling Vader is soo cute.
Saw Lights, Motors, Action for the first time. Great show. We did, however, have two mishaps. During the motorcycle chase sequence, one of the black bikes stalled due to a clutch problem. They had to scrap the rest of the scene. Also, during the following sequence, one of the villian black cars hit a wall, and they had to forklift it off the stage.

Epcot
Went over to Epcot from MGM. Hit M:S first, only a 5 minute wait. Did they tame M:S down? I remember it being much, much worse than it was.
Went over and stood in line for Soarin next. 75 Minutes. WELL WORTH IT! Unbelievable experience. Amazing. Superb. I've never seen a ride be applauded by most everyone on the ride when it was over. Granted, I started it, but everybody joined in. What a great experience.
Caught Illuminations. When did they add in the perimeter launches? I don't remember them.

6/6
Blizzard Beach
Park was pretty quiet in the morning, hit all the rides. I finally got up the nerve to do Summit Plummet, I'm really afraid of heights, so I have always skipped it. It was a real rush.

Going over to DTD and DQ tonight.

Also strange is how everyone is begging for a new attraction at IOA, while the park is crumbling down around them. Maybe the funds should go to maintenance? I guess Eddie Sotto was right.

From someone also going to visit SWW for the first time: is there anything special I should be looking to do, or go out of my way to see? Or can everything be seen by just walking by?

I was visiting during summer 2003 and they were already installed...so I dont really know.

The construction is for a new higway that will connect West Buena Vista Drive(the road CSR is on) to the new western beltway(toll road 429). RCID/Disney is currently constuction a about 3 miles of road way with three 1800 foot bridges over the actual reedy creek and a series of new retention ponds. The project will be completed next year the new road will meet up with W Buena Vista just South of CSR.

Thanks for sharing. Really to bad you didn't get to ride Mummy at US. I think you would have liked it. I'm guessing it's only an opening act for what Everest will have in store. And I'll give you credit for doing Summit Plummet. I've always skipped it to for the same reasons. But now that you've tried it and said it was a rush, I'll just take your word for it... :D
Enjoy the rest of your trip.....

Theres no way they can expand without fixing stuff first. If they do, they are going to be just a glorified Six Flags.

Get there early, so you can see the Jedi and Storm/Clone Troopers all over the place. Then most everything is back by Star Tours, with a couple meet and greets down the nearby streets. The introduction of the celebs was kind of pointless, didn't care for it. Didn't catch SW Millionaire, I'll do that next weekend. They also have a 20 minute "making of episode 3" that I'll hit next weekend.

I was there last week of August 2003, and they didn't do them. I only caught it once, so maybe they were just not done that night for whatever reason.

Thanks for your responses Thrawn...and I'm pretty close to 100% sure those perimeter launchers were there when I visited two years ago.

Which one is 429? Where does it head?

They have been there since the show began. However they are often cut due to weather (mainly wind).

Wow. I've seen that show probably .... 20 times, and I've seen them once.

Well the road is not fully constructed yet, but it will eventually head north and south connecting the Turnpike to I4 while traveling on the West side of Disney property. I will try to attach a map to show the route.

They've had the perimeter fireworks since about September, 1999. In other words, they've always been there. But, the last ones did get a lot better. They go out much farther and faster than they used to. The other 2 perimeter shots during Celebration are the same as always.

Here is the map that shows the route for the new toll road 429. This map does not show the route for Disney's new ride. However the black box next to where it says Reedy Creek Improvement District Road is where the intersection between Disney's road and the toll road will be located.

I was at AC along with MKT, PhotoDave and Slade that night as well. Slade was the guy with the red light saber which was occasionally commandeered by MKT and the cast at AC. I was told by several people that AC during gay days was not to be missed and they were right. AC during gay days is going down as a not to be missed event along with the Osbourne lights and the candlelight processional.

I could not believe that his parents had him there that late. I thought that no one under 18 was allowed at PI after midnight. Well I guess Lucas got quite the education there that night.

That construction is great to be stuck in if you happen to be going westbound on I-4, especially during and after rush hour. :brick:

I have to drive out to Winter Haven occasionally so I tend to hit it at the right time. Two Fridays ago there was an accident so Westbound I-4 was down to one lane.

It is no longer rush hour.....it is now just "rush", as it seems to last 24/7
