Videogame Hits Store Shelves Concurrent With Movie DVD and Home Video

CALABASAS HILLS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 18, 2002--THQ(R) Inc. (NASDAQ:THQI) today announced the release of Disney/Pixar's "Monsters, Inc. Scream Arena," exclusively for Nintendo GameCube. Based on the Academy Award(R)-winning animated movie, Disney/Pixar's "Monsters, Inc.," the videogame follows Sully, Mike and the monsters of Monstropolis through a truly unique gaming experience as they discover the power of laughter. Disney/Pixar's "Monsters, Inc. Scream Arena" for GameCube is now available at retail outlets nationwide alongside the recent movie release on DVD and home video.

"Disney and Pixar consistently create critically acclaimed animation motion pictures with proven retail marketing presence," said Alison Locke, executive vice president, North American Publishing, THQ. "We're excited to be introducing Disney/Pixar's `Monsters, Inc. Scream Arena' with the DVD release, providing the GameCube market with a proven franchise as the Nintendo platform ramps up to mass market levels."

After discovering the power that laughter brings to their city, the monsters of Monstropolis must train and compete against one another in Disney/Pixar's "Monsters, Inc. Scream Arena." Players will dodge, throw, and block their way to filling their laugh canisters first in a unique dodge ball style competition. Monsters throw a variety of balls, each having a different effect, like the disco ball that makes opponents dance uncontrollably and the backwards ball that makes opponents do everything in reverse. The game features several types of dodge ball games including "Monster Keep Away," "Knock 'Em Out," "Defend," "Targets," and "Ball Tag." Each game features different play modes for up to four players including party mode, team mode, buddy modes, or solo. The seven environments are all inspired by the movie.

maybe it was my laptop but the game seemed really slow in response and rather hokey... I'm not exactly going to drop much for this title. It's great that they are still making these kinds of games for kids, but come on Disney... you were starting to get me thinking that you had it in you to produce great videogames for those above the age of 12...

Just me 2 cents. BTW: Disney's PK is coming out on 5 November for the GameCube and 4 November of the PS2...
