Hello Dining Experts. I will be going to the World, mid July for 9 days, staying @ AKL. I have already booked my ADR's except one. I already have ADR's for both Sanaa and Boma. I am looking for one more Signature experience and it will be a SOLO one so I want to be comfortable. I understand The Flying Fish is nice and has a bar seating area where you can eat, and watch the food being prepared and sometimes talk to the chef. Wanted to get everyones take on their experiences here. The other place I was considering was Jiko- but since I am eating at Sanaa & Boma already I thought that may be to much at one location. I also have booked Artist Point which I really liked from previous experience. Any thoughts and menu suggestions are most welcomed. Want to book like in a day or two so appreciate any quick replies!!!!

Too Fishy For Me.

My friend dined there last year as he and his DW are huge fish fans and their verdict, was superb.Myself,Iam more of a meat person but if you like your seafood I reckon it's a winner. The problem with staying at AKL is your spoilt for choice,Sanna,Boma, and Jikos, all winners. So if you fancy a seafood night then FF should be a good choice.

i highly recommend going to flying fish. I went last summer for four days solo and ate here. You can sit at the bar and the food is excellent. I also ate at jiko on my trip, this is where you have interaction with the chefs, i didn't have interaction with a chef at flying fish. You can't go wrong with either choice. If you only have to choose one i would chose flying fish.

I did a solo meal at Flying Fish last year, but I did the special chefs wine tasting dinner. It was a bit on the pricey side, but it was a great meal and experience. I sat at the counter and got a 5 course meal with wine pairings. The chefs were great and kept me entertained all night and I never once cared that I was dining on my own. If you feel like splurging a bit I highly recommend this meal. If you want to just go standard then I still suggest heading to flying fish and sitting at a counter spot where you can watch the cooking in action.

Flying Fish is tied for our top restaurant that is on the dining plan (along with Citricos). We actually ate there twice on our last trip, once as part of the Chef's Wine Tasting Dinner and once off the regular menu. If you are looking to treat yourself to a great dining experience and you are a bit of a foodie, deffinately check out the Chef's Wine Tasting Dinner. It ran for us about $158 per person including tax and tip. This is served at the counter that looks into the kitchen, where you can chat with the chefs. There is a different counter where you can sit if eating off the regular menu (this is the bar counter which is next to the kitchen counter).

We are also big fans of Jiko. Since you are staying at AKL, have you considered looking into the Wanyama Safari? This is another experience we did this past trip and I have to say, it was the best experience we have had at WDW. It runs about $190 per person (including tax and tip) but we felt it was worth every penny. First, you meet with your guide and head out on the safari that goes through all the savannahs at AKL. The animals get so close. You hear all about the animals, how they are cared for and even some of their individual habbits both as a species and as the individual animal itself. After about 90 minutes or so out on the savannahs, you are taken for an awesome feast at Jiko, which also includes wine pairings.

I think no matter which way you go, be it off the regular menus at Jiko or Flying Fish or either of their special experiences, you are in for a great dining experience. I don't think eating at Sanna, Boma and Jiko all in one trip is too much, either. The menus at all 3 are quite different. We ate at Jiko twice (once as part of the WS), Boma three times (twice was for breakfast) and once at Sanaa and we didn't feel like it was overkill at all (our trip was for 11 nights).

I love the Flying Fish Cafe! We had such a fabulous server (Rogiero) and he put me at ease about being a vegetarian, since there wasn't a vegetarian item on the menu. The cheese plate was fantastic. There was a delcious bleu cheese from Australia calling Roaring 40s, which I highly recommend. My husband and I split the banana napoleon, which is great if you are into tropical fruits. My husband loved his scallops. We are going again in August (if we go, I've got my eye on a cruise.)

I would love to do the Chef's Wine Tasting Dinner sometime.

we've been to flying fish 3 times and have a great meal and service each trip. for entree's i've had a grilled swordfish, the scallops, and the potato wrapped snapper. i liked them in the same order as listed. it's our go to place on our dhs day since it's an easy walk. i'd be comfortable eating there solo. and they do change up their menu seasonally so there's always something new to try.
