Those Awful Restaurants.

I'll probably get bashed for this so my apologies in advance. Also, this is only my opinion.

anyway, my experiences with all my Disney meals have been wonderful. We have eaten at the well reviewed places as well as the bad reviewed places and sometimes I wonder what some people are expecting. I feel as though people who go to review meals automatically become armchair critics, like they are Anton Ego. I read the reviews to pass time and get a good laugh. Not saying I know better or the people are stupid; it's just the way the reviews are written sometimes.

As my family wanted to start trying other restaurants in Disney, we started choosing some of the 'bad' restaurants. Going by the reviews that we have read, we were skeptical. However, we gave them a chance and now they are some of our favorite. The ones I think of are Sci-Fi, Tony's, and the Luau. Perhaps they are not for everybody but I don't think they deserve the hate they get. People complain about the service at Tony's and the last time I was there, the waitress sat me out at the balcony to watch the Electrical Parade (I didn't even ask for that, I just sit where they seat me). She was attentive, sweet as could be and so when I read bad reviews of the place, I just think to myself....'do they go in expecting bad service and so look for it?' Because I just don't get it.

Anyway, We are going to all of these this week so if there is any negative changes, I will come back and correct myself. But I just think people over react with certain meals. If I had to choose one that we all were 'disappointed with,' it would be The Coral Reef. But not because of the food; it was more of the experience. It was a little cold and I got annoyed at all the kids rushing up to the aquarium, blocking diner's views. But that isn't enough for me to say 'stay away from it.'

All in all, reviews are great for educational purposes, but it shouldn't stop you from trying it yourself and making your own opinions on a place.

Planet Hollywood is a funny thing with me. I have only been to the Disney one once and it was not good year ago. But I used to go to the old location in NY and when they had one at Caesars in Atlantic City.

I stick with a few safe picks on the menu and never stray.

I only order the Texast tostadas app and the chicken sandwich with prosciutto and cheese. They have been consistently good. Now those two places are gone, but I think PH moved to Times Square, and I haven't tried that locale yet.

So I wanted to give it a shot in WDW some day. But I am only ordering those two things. No experimenting with the menu unfortunately...

I agree entirely. You have to make up your own mind about where to eat and not be biased by reviews good or bad.
Two examples of this are Le Celier and Nascar cafe for us;
We tried both on our last trip and were suprised by each
Le Celier was a huge dissapointment . Didn't like the food the ambience or the serving staff.
Nascar cafe was awesome.. The food was well cooked and presented and the waitress was as helpfull as all getout.
However this doesn't mean that one is better than the other just one was more to OUR liking and i would encourage people to try both and make up their own minds .

Yea, we haven't been to Le Celier in a few years. While I love the ambiance (dark, castle like) and never had an issue with the staff or the food, the whole '2 credit meal' is not worth it for that restaurant and we have since found better places to go. We switched to France for our Epcot meal. I can't remember if the reviews were good for that place but we were not sure we would like it. But is turned out to be a must do and will be our Easter Dinner this year.

It wouldn't surprise me to know that Disney has their own food critics. This is almost an industry-wide "standard". You have every type of food establishment on property from a food cart to V&A. Personally, my family and anyone I have been at WDW with have yet to receive bad service from the restaurants on property.

My only suggestion would be to add another fine dining option as good or better than V&A. One that is worthy of a Michelin star (or more). Do not allow it to be on the DDP. Enforce the dress code! Yes, people are on vacation. But, how hard is it to pack one "nice" outfit? I think our country as a whole has been spoiled by this quick-service reputation we have sadly earned.

Isn't Planet Hollywood going to get axed with Disney Springs?

ABC Commissary was not bad. It's location is terrible, but if you can get there during off hours, we've had substatially better luck in both quality and time spent there.

Okay, this board is of 60,000 + people. WDW has millions upon millions of guests. Our food reviews are of minor issues for WDW, but big for us. In scope of all things, we are the critics, but for the majority, it is just a day in the parks. Not repeated customers. We are the minority, the ones who visit frequently and give a hoot. Food quality is bad in our opinion, but to the masses, it must be good. That is why we on here have our top lists and know where not to go. Except for Disman who likes H&V. J/K

Yeah, we kinda of aware of all that. What we also know is Disney does monitor the boards as do the unseasoned guests. Disney rarely moves swiftly however at times they've been known to attempt to change.
SciFi was one they half heartily made some changes. The biggest change I've seen is after all the guest fits is the change from NesCafe to Joffery.

Now if Disney would just abandon those gross chicken dogs and replace with a nice kosher dog. Disney bit themselves in the big toe saying it was for health reasons, then Disney you don't top with all those unhealthy gourmet toppings if in reality you're concerned with our health.
