Here at LSU, we have a new 3 story 1000 person classroom auditorium. It's supposedly the most technillogical learning facility in the country. It's got those little "ask the audience" things, ac outlets, and internet connection at all the seats. The whole place is made of wood and the door is like 2 stories high! It's like going into some fortress! But anyway.. here's a pic from the school paper...

Does that thing ever get filled?

There should be an extra screen around the middle part! There is no way I could read what is projected there from where the pic was taken! :(

Nice auditorium though. :)

I'm sorry, but that is sad to me.

Education should not be about numbers. And technology in college should suite education. I am wondering about the need in education for "polling the audience" at least that expense....

Smaller classes with professors that you can get to know will never be beat by massive things like this. ]

Cool for Imax or movies, sad for education.

Sorry if I burst your bubble. But I had the experience of a moderately-sized school (6000 students, The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA) where I had the benefit of small class sizes and professors (not T/A's) that got to know you. It was invaluable.

I go to a school with about 600 students. It's small and my biggest class ever was 40 (freshman chemistry).

I agree in theory that all these little schools are great, but it's impractical. Take all the big schools and split them up into smaller ones and you've got way to many colleges and university for the states to support and there is no way private schools could make up the difference either.

i agree...i've never understood the appeal of a large university. sure, you have more 'oppurtunities', but only in some aspects. the university i'm set to attend this fall (my sister's soon to be alma mater (sp?)) has about the same number of students as my high school (i think) which is about 800 or so. i was looking into bigger universities, but realized that a class in an auditoruim has never been my style....it makes me kinda nervous...i'm much more comfortable in a small class environment! but hey, if bigger is better for you, more power to ya! :D but i just wouldn't get anything out of it.

It's actually a pretty smart thing to have... Ever been in a class when the teacher goes, "whoever thinks the answer is this, raise your hand..."? Well, this is the same thing...

I personally, like the whole big university feel. You get the chance to meet a lot of people from a bunch of different places.

Where do you go to school again, hmppan?
