Thinking of 2006

Hello everybody, I don't live close to Disney (live in Texas) and cannot afford to go all the time. Anyway when I was growing up my parents took me when I was 9 and then when I was 18. I went again when my daughter was 6 which just happened to be when I was 27. See where I going here, in 2006 I'll 36 so it's time to go again. I want to start planning a really nice trip for me, my wife and daughter (who is now a teenanger). I want to book far enough in advance to plan but I want to line up my ducks before I reserve anything. Any vacation to Disney is great but I really want to go all out and do alot of the little things that make Disney really special. Anybody and everybody that can give me ideals I look into them all. From the smallest to the biggest. Thanks all........

By the way it will be between October and December but not over any Holiday. It will be a 14-20 day stay on property. I might try to snaek over to non Disney parks for a day or two since I've never been there.

Greetings da1070 - A little more info if you please :)
When are you proposing to visit in 2006 and how long will you be there ? (I'll be there from the end of July for 3 weeks). Are you proposing to stay on or off property and will your stay include visits to non-Disney parks ?

Spoil Yourself!

If your budget can handle it, you might want to try the Platinum add-on package. This package covers breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack (plus gratuities) at basically ANY restaurant in the "world". Only this plan covers room service and victoria & Albert's as well. Victoria & Albert's usually costs $100 per person and I assure you that it is well worth the cost (Dreamy)! Food aside, each person in your party will recieve a spa treatment, personal fireworks cruise (also very fun), really nice seats at Cirque Du Soliel, and unlimited access to some of the really neat tours available. Only the platinum plan offers more in the way of tours ie. Dive Quest scuba experience, Dolphins in depth, and Aqua tours (I'm told this is snorkling but with a regulater)...all of which takes place in the living seas at epcot! All recreation is included (parasailing anyone?). when you arrive at your hotel there will be no waiting in lines to check-in, a cast member will be awaiting your arrival and he/she will go over everything and send you on your way. Did I mention the VIP areas that you and your family get to hang out in to watch shows? Very good seats and never crowded! They even throw in a gift (we recieved a crystal tinkerbell last year...about as tall as the length of your hand and as wide as a man's fist). This plan includes nightly turn down service too! But why stop there? Concierge level rooms are also very cool! That actually comes standard with turn down service but these rooms are on exclusive floors or buildings and all have private lounges with finger foods throughout the day. If you use the platinum plan, it is unlikely that you will ever be hungry enough for munchies anyway. The food aspect allows you each to eat an appetizer, entre, and desert for EACH meal...no special menu's either, you get to chose anything your heart desires. Just for fun, when we do this, we usually take a limo from the airport as well, it's only $100 extra for 3 people as opposed to taking the Mear bus (often crowded). Talk about a wonderful vacation!!!! This way you can try everything that makes disney special without the hassle of shelling out cash along the way. At the end of your vacation they let you know how much you "saved" by chosing to go platinum. If you utilize the perks of the plan, and these are things you would have purchased al la cart anyway, you save around $3000-$4000 in the process. Good luck with your trip!

Cost

When we went in January, it was roughly $1000 per day for two adults and one child. That included concierge at the Poly. The platinum add-on is less than $100 extra per person per day than the Gold Plan and around $160 more per person per day than the silver. Go to www.disney.go.com
there you can plan your vacation and find out specific pricing based on your choice of hotel and room type. Just click on customize vacation and it will give you all of your options. I'm excited that you are considering this plan, if you use it you will not be sorry! The folks I know that have gone to Disney with this package never want to do it another way again.

If you will be there 2-3 weeks, I would suggest that you not stay at the same resort the whole time. I would try out at least 2 resorts--perhaps 3.

You will be there long enough that it won't feel like you're always packing up.

The BEST advice is to get an annual pass. It pays for itself on Day 8. There are often room discounts, and a few dining discounts. www.allearsnet.com has lots of good information about various park passes, their costs, and what exactly you get with each one.

My advice re the add-on plans is to do your homework. Make sure you understand what you are and aren't getting. You can calculate the dollar amount of each wish (go to disney.com and price the trips with and without it), then determine if it makes monetary sense to you.

I would suspect that you will want to eat off-property a few times, especially if you'll be doing other Orlando tourist-y things.

My understanding is that the Wishes pay for themselves not for meals as much as for spa treatments, golf, parasailing, mouse boats, etc.

Good luck. I hope you are an obsessive planner-type. You'll have a blast planning this trip if you are.

I'm going to plan this trip down to the smallest detail. I just won't talk to my wife to much about it or I'll drive her crazy. By the way I have a great travel agent that I use. Is it better to use a travel agent or go straight through Disney.

My experience has been that a travel agent won't do anything for you that you can't do yourself.

The first thing you need to do is go get a really good book about Disney World, like Birnbaum's. You can get it a most bookstores or at a Disney Store. Look over all the new hotels and new attractions. I make up a schedule of which park we should go to on which day based on Early Admissions times. You'll be there long enough that you can also go to the Water Parks, Downtown, and maybe Pleasure Island.

If you have an AAA membership, they offer a pretty good brochure that shows the hotels and theme parks with pricing so you can get some ideas about what kind of tickets to buy. Don't forget www.disneyworld.com; they can give you lots of good ideas, too.

Do lots of planning and research. It's lots of fun, and pays of in the end.

Have fun.

When we go we use an agent. Somehow, we pay a cheaper rate through her than what we are quoted on the disney vacation web page. plus it helps her out with commision.
