Things that Disney could do breader...

I was supposed to write this two summer ago and it just came back to me in my dream!

Was there no greater WDW tragedy then the Columbia Harbor House eliminating the bread bowls for their delicious clam chowder?

I am hoping this has already been addressed in several previous threads!

I wonder if it was due to budget cuts or that Atkins diet. This is an issue that I believe the D-Troops website should take involvement in! It may be a small battle but one well worth fighting for!

Awaiting your sad stories about when you made the same discovery,

Snoballego

I'd guess it's a combination of cost cutting, plus I remember seeing lots of partially eaten bread bowls being thrown away. I hasten to add that I always ate every scrap of mine up. Since they ditched the bread bowl, I've not bothered eating there.

However, if you head to Animal Kingdom Lodge and go to Mara, its counter service place, they serve the fantastic African Stew in a whole wheat bread bowl :slurp:

I like the thread name. I thought it was a misprint and that people would
be all over you. I have to agree there are times when you find a cost
cutting measure that really hurts the overall experience. It would be
interesting to see how the impact of some of these decisions are made.

After experiencing the bread bowls in DL/DCA ,the WDW bread bowls were "suspect at best", not to mention the soup they put in there further compounded the problem.

So unless they improved upon it, I say good riddance :D

I've always had really bad experiences with the bread bowls at the CHH.. There was always a leak, or it would give out, or it was hard as a rock!! I dont know where they got their bread from..but it was a pretty horrific mess by the time I was done eating!

They stopped using the bread bowls a couple of years ago. When they made the change I asked a Columbia Harbour House cashier and she said that Disney did a survey for guests dining at the CHH. The majority of the guests didn't eat their bread bowls. Seeing how much Disney loves stats they ditched them.

I for one miss the bread bowls.

Barnum42 is correct on this. We've had this discussion before and he turned me on to the stew at Mara. If you liked the bread bowl chowder, I think you'll love the stew.

Forgot to thank Barnum42, so here's a belated thanks.

I too must sing the praises of the African Stew served in a bread bowl at Mara. Man oh man is it delicious!! And it's soooooo filling that I didn't have dinner until much later in the evening when I had it for lunch. It will definitely keep you satisfied for a while. :slurp:

Disney Could Offer the Option of a Bread Bowl...

I luv soup in a bread bowl! :slurp: One of my favorite places to eat is Pizzaria Uno's and they have a great Clam Chowder in a bread bowl. I think they charge more for the bread bowl, so maybe Disney could look into adding a fee for a bread bowl, that would solve the uneaten bread bowl waste. Just a thought........
