Typical Monday, saw the wife off for her trip on San Diego for here work. Got home around 4 to the sweet smell of the crock pot meal I had made that morning. Went on a short bike ride with my buddies, then back to my house for a few beers and conversation.

Got the kids settled down before I went to bed around 9:30. I woke from a dead sleep at 1:00 with chest pains. I thought it was gas. My oldest son sets out to the pharmacy for some gas medicine. I have to wake my other son up and get him to rush me to Santa Rosa Medical. I was having a heart attack. So here I lay in a hospital bed at West Florida Hospital after having a heart stint installed yesterday to replace a 100% blocked artery,
Damage to my heart, reflecting on how I got here at the ripe old age of 41.

I have a 6 day trip coming up at Polly the 25th. I hope I'm able.
PS I officially quit smoking Monday.

Thank Goodness your on the mend!!! Glad to hear you acted swiftly!
Smoke NO MORE my friend, at 41 you have many good years ahead of you. Your body has the ability to heal itself when you do good things to it.
With the doctors green light to travel I am sure you can enjoy the parks with some ride restrictions.
Prayers for a speedy recovery are being sent your way!!

First let me say thank goodness you are ok! You are lucky that you had your children and your wife leaving didn't leave you home alone!

Second let me just say that my husband (42) is also a smoker and has been wanting to/trying to quit pretty much since we met 9 years ago. It's hard! My mother and step-father smoked like chimneys until he had a major scare and then they both were able to quit after years of trying. Sometimes, it takes something like that to change your "want" to quit smoking to a "need."

Good luck and here's to better health for you!!

This is day 2 in the hospital and due to the seriousness of my condition, I haven't even thought about smoking.

This is not the time to look back but rather look forward! Look forward to many happy years with your loving family and as a former smoker. Stay strong for yourself and your family. Best of luck.

I was released from the hospital yesterday afternoon. Had moderate damage done to the heart from the attack. I will have to take medication the rest of my life to prevent the blood platelets from attaching to the stint they installed. On the brighter side, the cardiologist will allow me to go on our vacation scheduled for the 25th. He did say no thrill rides :( I have been 5 days smoke free;) Thank everyone for your support.

That must have been frightening and would throw anyone for a loop! Glad you made it through to tell the story.

Good work on quitting! Keep it up!

Perhaps, upon your delightful, smoke free vacation, you would be willing to be the mentor to those of us still foolish enough to be smoking so perhaps we can avoid the medical problems you have been fortunate enough to have survived. No pressure! Just a thought! Enjoy!
