Theming at Pop Century

Hi everyone! I'm looking for some of your expert advice. I booked Pop Century for August although I wanted AS Movies (loved the Fantasia building and pool), but it's booked up. I know there's still a chance I might be able to get in AS Movies if something opens up but now I'm wondering if it's even worth it. Basically the theming at AS Movies is perfect for our little one and I know there is some Disney theming but not as much as AS Movies. One of the pictures I saw (of PC) has a giant Mickey w/ foozeball (sp?) table. Does anyone know which building that is so I can request that one? Plus feel free to share your experiences at PC. I've read reviews here, on expedia etc. but I'm not convinced it's better than AS Movies. I know the big plus is the booths in the food court but I don't know of any else. Your advice is apprieciated. Thanks! :)

I never actually stayed at POP but I have stayed at AS Sports. I know quite a few people that have stayed at POP and they all liked it - adults and children included. The only complanit that anyone had was huge waits for bus service. The times they metioned were - park closing, early afternoon, and to some extent park opening.

The Giant Mickey with the telephone is by the 1970's building if my memory is correct - with the fooxzebafball:confused: thingy right by it.

We stayed there in October. I think the Mickey phone and foosball was 70's.
The place has three nicely themed pools. The whole resort isn't really that big, a 5 min. walk from one end to the other. The whole place just oozes "FUN". Don't be too bummed about AS Movies. From what I've seen on the boards and websites, the Pop food court is better anyway. Pop is newer and was very clean when we were there. I'd recommend requesting something on a top floor, even if it's not at 70's. Request both, but make top floor a higher priority. I think the top floors have much less toilet noise compared to the lower two. At least that's what I've read. We requested the third floor based on that and it was really quiet.
They also say Pop has it's own dedicated bus line compared to the other that shares.
We're going in Aug., too. :sohappy:Maybe see you there.

We stayed at PC in Feb. '05. It was great. We were in the 50's building - the 70's is where the foosball court is. (you can't actually play it) There are so many neat things at the hotel - in the 70's section there is a giant big wheel and a Mickeey phone. In the 80's/90's area is the computer pool and the stairwells on the 90's buildings are cell phones - and the number on the cell phone is Disney resorts phone # as I recall. The laptop icon at the 90's building is pretty cool too! There are playdoh animals... I can go on for a while, but I think I'll stop here. Overall, PC is a lot of fun. I have stayed at both PC and ASMovies (and now ASMusic) and they are pretty equal. We usually go at slower times of the year but at PC there was one bus for the resort, where at the All-Stars, they often shared a bus between the three resorts. That can make a difference, but if you are going during a busier time, they probably each have their own bus. Hope that helps. If you would like to see some pictures, let me know and I can e-mail them to you.

We love PC. There are huge Lady and Tramp figures at the 50s section, and Mowgli and Baloo in the 70s. Plus Mr. and Mrs. PotatoHead near the 80s section, the giant Mickey phone and the big wheel in 80s too.

Have you looked at the pictures on AllEarsNet.com? They have some fun ones. http://allearsnet.com/acc/g_pop.htm

Very first WDW resort I did, was Pop, so its like tops for me. But I also stayed at the AS sports and music, and IMO Pop is better. I guess its because I stayed there first. but I think I enjoyed the icons at AS sports more than AS music, even though I love music. Pop seems like it should be fun for the whole family. I think everything that you have at AS movies, you basically have at Pop, just with different icons/themes. Its really nice, and I wouldnt be to bummed about not being ables to stay at AS if that was your first choice. Because they're similar and you still get to enjoy all the WDW resort benefits. Hope you have fun on your future trip, and good luch deciding:wave:

Is the 70's building a "preferred" location and is there any theming in or around the pools ala the Fantasia pool at Movies?
The 60's building is the preferred.

Between 70's building a and b is the foosball

I think you'll be happy with the resort--it has the type of theming that any kid will love and it's great for adults--really fun to reminisce about the last half of the 20th century (and I LOVE the soundtrack). It's really fun--we are staying there again in June :-)

The theming is great at Pop. My 6 year old loved it. I have some really cute pictures with the larger than life icons. We were in the 50's building on the 3rd floor with an outside view of a tree area. We could hear some bus noise in the morning, but not bad at all. Other than that, just your typical next door neighbor noice. What you would expect anywhere. My first Choice will be Pop from now on when we head down to Disney.

Loved Pop Century

We stayed at PC in December 2003. It was the first time I had stayed on the resort. We loved it. I did not find the buses too slow they were packed but it was between Christmas and New Year's so the place was busy. While we were there our son was sick. The staff was great giving the fact he was sick all over the rug. They cleaned up and offered the shuttle to the health clinic. We offered the cast member a tip but he would not take it. Needless to say we are due to arrive back at PC for the beginning of September and can't wait to get there.

We stayed at Pop in March and loved it. I read some bad reviews and was kind of worried but I was worried about nothing. It wasn't loud, mousekeeping was excellent and we didn't have any problems with the buses or any castmembers. I am going to be staying in Pop again next year as well.

We HATED Pop Century. We usually stay at Caribbean Beach, but were going to 10 days last vacation, so needed to stay someone a bit more economical. Pop Century is SOO crowded! Holy cow.. just the MASS of humanity that is there.. sheeshh.. The food court is terrible, lots of choices, but nothing is very good, let along good for you. The bus stops were always packed, and there never seemed to be enough buses to handle the capacity that stays at Pop Century.

Anyway, sorry to bash it, but you asked for honest opinions.

One good thing.. it did have a nice pathway for jogging. :)

Pop or AS?

 Pop Century for sure. we stayed there Feb. 2006 and loved it. The preferred bldgs. are the 50s and 60s. we stayed top floor of the 70s where the Mickey phone and the foosball guys are. across from that was a giant big wheel. they have a Goofy splash pool. the pools have all sorts of neat things around to look at. specially the main pool by the food court. the food is good at the food court. The busses are great. It wasnt that crowded when we were there. going back Jan. 2007. Cant wait!!!:sohappy: :sohappy:

We stayed at Pop last September in building 10 of the 70's building. Our room faced toward the Mickey Phone and Foosball men. We were right beside the Big Wheel. It's the building in the pic they show on the Disney web site when you book resorts through them. Walking from the main hall, you pass the Hippy Dippy Pool and Goofy's Pop Jets.

Just stayed at the Pop in early April and I was a little disappointed. I was on the fourth floor facing the pool and it was very noisy. (50's Building) Basically until the pool closes if you face the pool you can hear kids screaming. So if your a light sleeper keep that in mind. The rooms are very small. The bed closest to the door you can actually touch the door from the bed. Keep in mind I am only 5'6". So you can hear people in the hall. The food court was very crowded. I will say the hotel was neat and clean and my son thought it was great. Frankly, thats all that matters. I thought the staff was nice as well. I am just glad I was only there one night because I am a light sleeper. We will stay somewhere else the next time we go to WDW. Hope that helps.

PC is OTT on the theming!!

the foozeball area is the 70's building and has a phone mickey on one side (by the lifts) and a big wheel on the other side (by the lifts).

I love Pop! The food court there rocks, with more then your standard food court fare. The giant themed things are awesome, and make for great pictures. I think my favorite part is the music that is played by the 80's/90's pool. I emailed Disney, and they gave me the list of the songs that are played there, and they are now a playlist on my iPod.

If you go to the top floor in the 50's building, you can see SSE, and see Illuminations.
If you go to the top floor in the 60's building, you can see ToT and see Fantasmic.
If you go to the top floor in the 90's building, you can see the main gate to WDW.

The rooms are small and a bit cramped, but we go by the pholosphy that you don't spend much time in them so it doesn't matter.

I'm so obsessed over the resort, I have an entire set of pictures up online:
(Each decade has its own section) Enjoy!
