They released The Wizard of Oz today to IMAX theatres around the country, in 3D. I am actually interested in seeing it on the big screen. No so much intereested in IMAX and 3-D, although that technology on old films still amazes me. But that is the only format I believe being released today.

It comes out on Blu-Ray next week, but I think it is neat to see it on the big screeen. A great chance to take your kids (or a date) to see it on the big screen.

Kind of reminds me how Disney used to re-release the major titles (Snow White, Robin Hood, Peter Pan, Old Yeller, etc.) every seven years or so in the past, so that children could see them on the big screen and not just on TV.

I got to see it over the weekend, in 3-D (not IMAX, though). I must say two things:

1. I think that the technology to make these classic films 3-D is amazing, but
2. The real reason to see this film on the big screen is the movie itself. Everyone should do it. It is such a nice movie, with a powerful story that works on more than childhood levels.

I sat there and realized how powerful its deceptively simple message is. My 7 year old neice told me that its meaning was, "Don't run away."

And of course, it is that. But why? Because you need not often look "over the rainbow" to find what you need. And when you do, you often found that had everything you needed (a heart, courage, a brain, and love) right in front of you all along before you spent so much time trying to find it elsewhere.

Of course we may all know this. But it is sometimes refreshing to have such a simple, wonderful reminder.

If the movie is still playing in your area, do yourself a favor and take someone to see it while you can on the big screen and let it bring you into the story, 3-D or not.
