Actually, the Wild was planned in the early 90's and got stuck in Development Hell, THEN ended up coming out after Madagascar. So more then likely, it WAS Dreamworks that stole from Disney again in a way. But I suppose that release is key now these days...

Sad but true.

Whether or not it was planned before - it is just not an entertaining movie -- saw it last night, and must say there isn't really a full-out laugh anywhere, and the penguins in Madagascar were funnier than anything in The Wild...I don't mind seeing similar movies if they have something to entertain you or say, but this has neither

Well, I'm not surprised in the least. It was clearly a rip-off of Madagascar while stealing some of Finding Nemo. Many of the critics are saying the same thing. So, check it out for yourselves:

First, as others have mentioned, The Wild has been in production for MUCH longer than Madagascar. Second, this is not animated by Disney. Disney is functioning just as a distributor. CORE animation, a relatively small Canadian company, worked dang hard to churn this one out.

Really, it's all the problem of bad timing.

Actually, it is more than bad timing. The film has been in development at Disney for over 9 years. They farmed it out to Complete Pandemonium to complete the animation (CORE) and it was promised for January 2005. That would have released BEFORE Madagascar. That it is arriving now (16 months overdue) speaks to serious problems way way above bad timing. Still, it is charmless and unfunny. Had they opened the other way around, The Wild would still have been a flop, and Madagascar would still have been the hit. Madgascar would have gotten reviews like "got it right this time around"...

I thought "The Wild" was a great movie, and I believe that it's a lot better than "Madagascar. I imagine if they both came out at the same time Dreamworks would be feeling the burn!
