The Walt Disney Treasures DVDs

Forgive me if I've placed this in the wrong forum, but I'd just like to say that everyone here would love these discs...

Don't know what they are? Disney released 4 limited edition tins, each covering a specific section of Disney history. I was lucky enough to find them all before they were bought up by Ebay fiends... Anyways, here's the four disc sets:
1. Davy Crockett- Every single episode of this series is in this tin. Don't knock it until you've tried it. I grew to love this set, and it's remarkable how many things in WDW are from this series.
2. Mickey Mouse in Living Color- All of the Mickey cartoons from 1935-1938 are in this set. It's a great bargain, and seeing early versions of Pluto and Donald are sooooo funny.
3. Disneyland USA- This tin showcase four episodes of the Disneyland TV show, complete with original opening of Disneyland and all of its bloopers... Great for getting that yesteryear feel.
4. Silly Symphonies- All of the old Disney song-based cartoons are here. These were the test beds for untried animation techniques. Not being much of a Fantasia fan, I thought that this one would be a little dull. I was wrong.... Watch the Beaver cartoon and you will become a true believer.

The material on all of this discs look good. Disney has taken gerat care to restore this material. I can't believe that it's been preserved so well for so long.

It's nice, but they cut out a lot (specifically Mickey Mouse club intros and half of the Tiki Room)...so I don't think I will purchase it. Disney Channel versions are more complete.

Disneyland

I have the Disneyland, USA DVD...

It's good, but a little lengthy. I beleive I could have cut 45 minutes out of it and still made it good and informative.

The scenes you mentioned cut were left out due to legal reasons. I wish Disney would've bit the bullet and paid for the rights, but... oh well. The sets are still worth it.

It's pretty strange when you realize that Disney had a hard time using Mickey Mouse as a character...

I learned a lot from these sets. Disney has announced that they'll be doing another batch in September, but no idea as to what they'll be.

Yeah, the last two songs, "Let's All Sing Like the Birdies Sing" and the other one (I can't remember what it's called) were licensed, and Disney no longer owns the rights outside of the existing DL Tiki Room.

Here's the song list:

IN THE TIKI, TIKI, TIKI ROOM
OFFENBACH
LET'S ALL SING LIKE THE BIRDIES SING
LUAU
HAWAIIAN WAR CHANT
FINALE

I thought Sherman/Sherman wrote LASLTBS??

Well, that means they SHOULD keep Tiki as it is...there can be no way to switch it back after...all it needs is a big refurbishment...and more advertisment..and an updated Barker Bird...maybe more special effects...

But this leads us into a thread drift...so...

The DL DVDs are okay...but better if unedited...:D

For a good refresher for when I was about to return to WDW, I have some tapes I bought as souveniers as a kid. I have two tapes, one for the Magic Kingdom and one for Epcot. It's both fun to see the people in 80's outfits, and sad to see the rides I'll never get to ride again.

Last year on my honeymoon, I bought the Animal Kingdom tape. On my last trip, I was hoping that Disney would produce some DVDs... but nope.

This year, they have produced a "souviner DVD".

There are some on eBay for $49.00.

That's kind of high, but you know how the gauge the prices on eBay.

...and I've yet to watch my copy of the Disneyland DVD all the way through...

(I've only gotten to someway through Dateline: Disneyland for now...man I am slow watching it!)

The funniest thing so far is looking at the crude walkaround suits they had on opening day...

I just picked up the Disneyland one today at Costco. I'm probably going to order the Mickey Mouse one from Amazon and would also like the Silly Symphonies one. I'm not sure about the Davy Crockett one. Maybe I should get it just so I have the complete set.

I originally bought the Davy Crockett one just to have a complete set. As it stands, now that I've watched them all, I think it ties with the Mickey cartoons.
It sounds strange, I agree, but there's no discounting its addictive qualities.
