It is being reported that Walt Disney Animation Studios next hand drawn film will be "The Snow Queen", based on the story by Hans Christian Anderson. It currently appears to be taking the slot after the new Pooh movie; which would make it December 2012, if they keep the current slate of Pixar movies in the summer and WDAS movies in the winter. According to this article, Alan Menken, who also is doing the music for the next WDAS release Rapunzel, will do the music for The Snow Queen.

It also mentions that John Musker and Ron Clements have another project waiting in the wings. This does bring into question the status of King of the Elves, the previous holder of the Winter 2012 slot. It's believed that the project has been stuck in story development and is not close enough to begin production.

The Snow Queen sounds like a fantastic choice for an animation. I am sad to hear about the problems with King of the Elves though.
