Was just thinking last night about the reasons most people choose to stay on property at Disney and what the main factors are. Mrs M and I have use of my dads place in Haines City so staying in a Disney resort isn't something we do as we already have free accommodation. I have stayed in the Port Orleans resort about 12 years ago and loved the feel of being in Disney though we tended to drive out in the evenings to eat off property. I think I made use of early entry a few times however that wasn't really a consideration when deciding to stay there. I also remember over 30 years ago staying at the tree top villas just off the waterways between Port Orleans and DTD. As a kid I loved that and it felt so magical just thinking "I'm actually in Disney World" as I went to sleep.

I'm not knocking staying on site or implying it's better or cheaper to stay off site, however just out of curiosity I wondered what the major deciding factors are that lead to staying within the world

Convenience.
Being engulfed in "Disney" 24/7.
Security.

I actually avoid EMH parks as much as possible, too crowded. So that "advantage" doesn't work for me.

Like Monty said, convenience is a big part of it. Staying on property means being closer, so less time travelling and more time at the parks. And for me, staying there is part of the magic.

Also, we enjoy the morning EMH, as we don't mind getting up early and getting in the big rides before everyone else rolls out of bed.

Being a "local" now, for shorter weekend trips we will likely look to stay off property if we can't get a good enough deal on property. But we still plan on taking a week each year and staying on property as a vacation.

You gave no "all of the above" option, so I did not vote. The Disney hotels are almost guaranteed to be safe and clean. I prefer to not drive in the mornings and evenings, and the EMH is nice. The constant Disney vibe is also a perk.

The poll is set up to allow all four options to be selected if you want.

I just want to stay in the bubble filled with the Magic. Not driving is a plus, security all those things work for me but keep me in the bubble!

I agree with another poster who does not care so much for EMH, to crowded.

Being Engulfed in Disney.
Even though Im a Semi Local I still like to use the transportation system (especially visitng Epcot ;) )
Security at the Resorts vs offsites. Although the area around WDW is a little better that Universal.

EMH

Plain and Simple...I feel it's just more fun!

BTW did you do know you can click and submit multiple options on the poll?

The Disney 24/7 is my biggest reason. Every year or two we have some amazing off property deal we cant pass up and every time we are reminded why we stay on property. I do not know what it is but once I drive off property, I feel like I am leaving my trip. It does not matter how nice, close or inexpensive that off property room is, simply having to go there takes away from my Disney trip.

Being immersed in the Disney magic 24/7 is a big reason why we always stay on property. We usually never go anywhere offsite so not having to rent a car and using the WDW transportation is always great for us.

There is nothing like that feeling of getting off the plane and heading to DME and being on your way to your resort at the most magical place on earth. Walking into the lobby for the first time, that wdw air just hits you right in the face. And the magic doesn't stop until you leave.

The convenience of being on property, that helps a lot when you have a 3 year old and an infant.

The awesome feeling of being in Disney and never having to leave.

The great hotels that just make you feel like you're on vacation. When you stay in hotels a lot you realize there's a difference in Disney hotels and "regular" hotels.

None of the Above. The only reason is my wife loves the Dining Plan. I actually prefer the larger sized rooms and prices off-site.

The Magic Bubble.

Like Lulabell I love being inside this magical bubble. There's lots of other reasons that have been covered by others but the number one reason is living the dream, infact the reference book that i done this year for my local library is entitled " Theatre of Dreams ".:sohappy:

I agree it is like going into a bubble. I live in Florida and I can completely suspend Disbeilf that I am in the Orlando/Kissimmee area while staying on property. WDW is it's own city/planet at times.

I love that I never have to worry about if my hotel is clean and safe.

I love that I can get the dining plan so I know that everything is paid up front (except for gratuity).

I love that once I check in I never need my credit card or cash because everything is attached to my room key.

I love that I can purchase stuff in the parks and it's delivered back to my resort. I don't need to worry about carrying it around or picking it up at the end of the day.

I love that I can stay later in the parks with the EMH.

I love waking up and knowing that I'm in the Disney magic already and when I go to sleep I'm still in it.

I love having the monorail deliver me back to my resort. (I know this only works for two parks since I'm at the Poly but I still love it)

I love that my daughter is following in my footsteps and understand all of the above!
