The Penny Arcade

There isn't alot I like in DIsneyworld that's been removed, but one of the few is the Penny Arcade in Main Street. I really enjoyed it when I visited it in '90 and was sadden to hear that they removed it. Most likely for another gift shop. >> I don't mind the gift shops and most of the time like them, but I really didn't like that they actually took out something just to put another in. Especially something as unique as the Penny Arcade. Is it still in Disneyland per chance?

I think the reason they got rid of it was the name itself.

They got rid of the arcade because the maintenance costs were too high. Pinball machines and other mechanical amusement devices require a tremendous amount of upkeep. Just as the old "real bullet" Frontierland Shooting Gallery was replaced in 1985 with the infrared weapons version, current arcades avoid mechanical devices (when possible) and prefer to use all electronic devices.

Frankly, a lot of those old penny arcade devices are indeed museum pieces. You can still find several of the penny moviola devices at the Main Street Train Station.

I enjoyed the magic shop as well. I stopped there on every visit and watched as the CM's performed legerdemain. However, I never purchased anything from that shop nor did I ever see anyone else make a purchase.
