The Original Sinbad Ride - As Scary As They Say?

For those of you in the DisneySea loop and experienced this first-hand, was the original Sinbad ride as truly frightening for children as legend says? I've watched a few POV videos of it on YT, and while certainly seems darker than the current ride, it is still on par with, say, the original Snow White ride at MK when the old hag was stalking throughout the ride. Nothing over a PG-rating in fear.
So for those of you more familiar with the Sinbad situation when it first opened, were the complaints really as severe as what's rumored or was it more or less a casual decision to change the ride to a milder, family tone? I cannot see this being anywhere near Alien Encounter level of complaints.

Its really scary that it made kids cry during opening, and thats what struggled DisneySea with its original concept of Adult centric theme park, that it lacked DISNEY IP and areas for the little ones even shows weren't the cutesy ones we see today.

Back then DisneySea were almost an empty 2nd park. even though it had high quality entertainment and originality.
That didnt translated well on Attendance and Revenue.
