Pre-Trip The "OMG this is really happening" pretrip report

Resort: Art of Animation- Finding Nemo suite.

When:7/8-7/12

Who:

Me (VioliaV): Mom/evil not quite step-mother. I grew up in San Diego and I've been to Disneyland several times when I was a kid, starting in 1985. Last time I was there was in November 2002, about a month and a half after I had my daughter. It never occurred to me to bring her because she was just a little baby. Never got to go to DCA. Never stayed at the actual resort. I saw Song of the South in movie theaters in 1986.

Boyfriend (Scott): Also a Southern Californian, last time at Disneyland was in 1990 for grad night. He's never been on Star Tours or Splash Mtn. ST opened in 87, so I don't know how he missed it.

Kids: H (15), S (12), V (11), J (11). They've never been to any Disney. Ever. S has been to Six Flags. The rest have been to Moody Gardens and the Schlitterbahn near Austin. The waterparks at Disney alone are wowing them. On the other hand once there they may not even want to go to the water parks. H is pretty blaze about it. Because he's a teenager. Dunno about S. V and J are excited. They want to do the Jedi Training thing.
I've each person an Disney shirt for the trip. I got a Discworld/Disney mashup tee. Scott a Mickey-Cthulhu . H: A Kingdom Hearts Tee. S: picked out a regular Goofy tee. V: An Alice/Dr Who tee. J: a Frozen/Game of Thrones tee.
I'm also getting a lot of Disney pins for them to divide amongst themselves (to put on lanyards and the like).
They're each getting a cinch backpack. The girls are each getting a new cellphone cover. I told J about Disney bounding and I think she going to try and do up outfits with that in mind.

So at the 40 day mark we've got a tentative day to day schedule, tentative because we don't like being married to having to do one thing.

I've only done 2 ADRS, at Beaches & Cream on Tuesday 7/8 and at Fultons on 7/11 (this is our "date night"). Fultons because we're seafood junkies and it seems like fun atmosphere. Riverboats are cool! Tower for two looks divine! The kids want to check out that arcade place, so we'll let them loose in there and go eat (yeah, I know you guys say it's lame, but it still sounds fun).
Though I'm almost thinking of swapping Fultons for Coral Reef since we might, might be at Epcot that day. Travel makes me nervous, there's just so much that can go wrong.

Scott wants to visit the water parks on Wednesday and Thursday in the AM. Thursday I'm taking J at rope drop to TRY and see A&E.

So tentatively

Tuesday:
1. Arrive
2. DHS for some ride action.
3. Beaches & Cream for the Kitchen Sink
4: Who knows? Back to hotel? Mini golf? Maybe some late night Magic Kingdom (probably this because Scott really wants to see fireworks and the Main Street Electrical Parade [I know you guys think it sux, but we're California, so nostalgia for us])?

Wednesday:
1: Blizzard Beach
2: Animal Kingdom
3: Dunno. AK closes at 8, right? Maybe Epcot?

Thursday:
1:Me and J hit up MK at rope drop for A&E
2: Scott (and the rest?) go to Typhoon Lagoon
3: After A&E J and I are supposed to meet up with the others at Typhoon Lagoon.
4: Back to MK, where we close it up? Dunno.

Friday
1: DHS for Jedi.
2: Maybe Epcot? Maybe MK?
3:DtD - ADR for Fultons.

Saturday

No park time, so maybe check out Dtd before we head out (don't leave till about 1).
I should be able to squeeze in new parade, Fantasmic, Illuminations, and Wishes here and there. Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom is on our list.

Also, we're going H's b-day that week, so he's getting a b-day button. I've also gotten him some keyblade pendants for him to wear. He already has a chain.

Lots to do and lots to see, just remember to take some time and enjoy the parks because its over really fast. Sound like you have some good plans. Depending on what kind of seafood you like you might want to keep the Fultons ADR. Check out the menu between the restaurants before you make you final ADRs. Either way you will have a Magical time.
