The oddest thing you've seen on I-95

I'm sure more then a few of us here have taken the trip down 95 on more then one occasion. With that in mind what are some of the craziest things you've witnessed or been a part of? These could be any travel experiences, places you saw along the way (we all know south of the border but any sights or experiences within SOTB are welcome to be shared), and/or people you've seen along the way.

For anyone that remembers the old toy guns that they used to sell at fort wilderness (before they started placing the orange caps on the barrels), our parents used to buy my cousins and I a gun each trip when we were younger. On one trip home my cousins were pointing the guns out the back window of my uncle's van on the ride home. A fellow traveler reported seeing a van with individuals who appeared to have guns and sure enough shortly after a Georgia state trooper had them pulled over on the side of the road searching the entire van to make sure the only guns on board were the toy ones. Our van was stopped for lunch and this was back in the late 80's before cell phones so it wasn't until after we got back within C-B range that we found out what happened.

I was driving through South Carolina once when I saw a car coming the other way with a big plastic luggage carrier on top of the car that was apparently "secured" down with bungee cords . As he accelerated the front of the carrier lifted up in the air 'til it was almost vertical. This was before cell phones or we would have reported it before the thing flew into someone's windshield.

We drive back and forth to WDW several times a year. In spite of our trip only being 2.5 hours, we always seem to see a few interesting things on the trips. Most of them involving people that should not be behind the wheel of a car.

On one such trip we were coming back from WDW on the same day bike week was getting out. It was incredibly windy, so windy that I was getting blow around in a little Saturn SL2. We were behind a duely towing a large enclosed Harley Davidson trailer. The guy was driving like he was in a rally car and the wind was playing hell with the trailer. The wife and I were taking bets on when he would finally lose it. The trailer was on two wheels and almost went over just before St Augustine. At that point they pulled over to switch drivers. I can only imagine the carnage that went on in that trailer.

Bikers are an interesting bunch and I should know as I ride as well. Saw a passenger on one of the loudest Harleys ever who decided it must be more comfortable with her top down. Lets just says some things were flapping in the wind that should have been strapped down...the rider was oblivious as he was reaching for the sky with the highest ape hangers I have ever seen.

I wasn't on 95 going to Disney, I was going into NY from NJ and I was on the George Washington bridge in dead traffic, not moving, and I was next to Derek Jeter, I beeped and waved, so he rolls down his window and him and I were talking for those few minutes, you prob wouldn't think it, but really, really nice and humble guy. And idiot me didn't even think to ask for a pic or autograph!:confused:

My MIL was traveling along when a new car transport truck in front of her had a vehicle come loose and roll off the back of the truck. Fortunately she was far enough behind that the run away car went into the ditch on the side before she came upon it. The truck kept moving along unaware that it had happened.

I have a coworker who is a Yankees fan and he met jeter before and said the same thing.

My parents came up on a dump truck who was dropping bricks on the highway. My dad tried to do the right thing and get the guys attention and don't you know he runs a brick over and catches a flat tire. To make matters worse it was a brand new car and the only spare available had to come off a brand new car in a dealer lot in Jacksonville (we were still on our way down just near the Georgia/Florida border).

While this will not be odd to most of us, I am sure it turned a few normal people's heads.

I don't use i-95 but rather the turnpike. I've seen deer along the side of the road a few times as I am approaching Kissimmee from the south. At the rest area, I've seen people in their pajamas. I hate to say it but they look trashy.

It might not have been on 95, but it was definitely on our way to FL one year when we passed several antiques autos who were in the Great Race. My brother had done that race the year before, so it was pretty neat seeing them. I believe that year the race was ending in WDW.

Wow, I'm thinking we've had a somewhat charmed drive down I-95 because South of the Border was the strangest thing we've seen. Well, unless we can count Washington actually working as being strange. My in-laws saw a brush fire somewhere in FL once which is kind of odd since we don't see too many of those in PA.

I can't stand the Yankees (sorry Yankee fans) but I have heard that about Jeter. That is way too cool! On a side note...some friends and I went to Toronto once and went to a Yankees/Blue Jays game. My good friend is a Cardinals fan and I am a Braves fan and neither of us can stand the Yankees. But it was so funny going to this game and we were so excited to just be in the presence of great players. Rogers Clemens was pitching that day, Bernie Williams was in the outfield, Derek Jeter was doing his thing at SS, it was crazy. We both were like kids at Christmas. He had to stop and call his dad. Still don't like the Yankees, though.

Our church youth choir took several trips to FL and one trip in particular, 1996, we had two blowouts on the way to Disney and two on the way home. So much fun. Sorry if any of you encountered our crazy group of teenagers!

After an unplanned meeting on the day we were suppose to leave, we left our hometown later than planned with a plan to drive straight thru to Orlando (21 hours). While swapping on and off and taking a route that was highly suggested, but not a good route, we arrived in Georgia at about 3 in the morning. I needed to take a break and the husband wanted something to eat. I walked into a Waffle House and ordered him a few sausage sandwhiches while I took care of somethings. When I came back out to get his food the atmosphere was really weird. They gave me the sandwhiches and I left only realizing down the road that the place was getting held up. We did report it, but we were so tired neither of us were paying attention.

Nothing unusual on I-95, but one year on our way through Orlando a small plane landed on I-4...we were detoured.

Yikes!!!
