The new and improved Carousel of Progress (open brainstorming)

I've been wondering how to go about updating the Carousel of Progress. This has been something that's been going off and on throughout my ideal updates for WDW. It's no secret that the show needs an update, especially at the end. But I'm thinking of going even further with this. Pretty the entire show would be updated. That means whole scenes would removed, replaced or switched around. In this case, this update of mine would basically retain only the opening first act, set at the turn of the century, and go every forty years, just as the previous installments went every 20 years (except with the last act of the show, but that's another story).

I've also been thinking about who should voice the father this time, because the actors have all either passed on or are just too old to voice them now. I was initially thinking of Peter Coyote, the narrator for many of Ken Burns' PBS documentaries, and whose only Disney credit was appearing in an old Disney Channel movie called "The Blue Yonder". Then just for fun, I watched a video about the Carousel of Progress, and they showed Rex Allen Jr., the son of Rex Allen, the original voice of the father, and for whom the voice of the father was almost entirely congruous. Rex Jr. sounds just like his father when he imitates the opening narration of the original Disneyland show.

Anyway, I'm thinking of Rex Allen Jr. to voice the father in this new version of the show. And the show opens as it does in the turn of the century like usual. But after that, the show then jumps to the 1940s, then to new scenes themed to the 1980s and the 2020s.

I can do the script for the opening scene (largely because it's unchanged more or less), but I would really like help with the 1940s, '80s and 2020s scenes, because they are relatively brand-new. Any help would surely be appreciated.

If you remember my "EPCOT Center: A New Generation" thread, you'll probably remember my World ShowPlace idea (http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/epcot-center-a-new-generation.902639/page-2#post-6841536). World ShowPlace basically serves as a new Festival Center for the park, thus allowing Wonders of Life to open back up. Since the area is inspired by the 1964-65 New York World's Fair, I proposed that Carousel of Progress could move there. It could even look the same as it did at the New York World's Fair.

Maybe this new version of the show could open with it.

Plus, I have an idea for a new opening spiel to play before the theater starts spinning.

"Hello, folks, and welcome to Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress. You're in for a real treat. You see, most carousels just go around and around without getting anywhere. But on this one, at every turn, we'll be making progress. And progress is not just moving ahead. Progress is dreaming and working and building a better way of life. Progress is a commitment to people. A commitment of making today and tomorrow the best time of your life. It wasn't always easy. At every turn in our history there was always someone saying "Turn back. Turn back." But there is no turning back. Not for us. Not for our carousel. The challenge always lies ahead. And as long as man dreams and works and builds together, every day will always bring a great big beautiful tomorrow. May the century begin."

And then, they could possibly play Rex Allen's original recording of "There's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow", have him sing through the song once, and then, once the chorus starts to sing, that's when the carousel starts to turn. What do you think?

My only suggestion is to keep Mel Blanc's voice acting for Uncle Orville.

Well, Orville's scene is in the 1920s, which is being removed. I had seen a script of the 1940s scene replacing the 1920s scene, but all it did basically was reuse the same dialog of the 1920s with the '40s stuff thrown in, making for some mismatches. The only real assured thing I can think of is that Mel Blanc voicing the parrot in the first scene is retained.

As for you, @DisneyManOne, the show is not being removed from the Magic Kingdom. It's staying there.
