The Music of the Rides

We are heading Orlando side in August of this year and in prep I have been getting in the mood to listen to the different music associated with the rides. It has then become noticeable that many of the "theme park" albums or spotify playlists contain songs or tracks that are of rides that are no longer around.

Am I right in saying that WDW has a strict policy that when a ride disappears and becomes removed the music goes as well. One of my favourites is to listen to 'Universe of Energy' , a defuct ride x2 in itself. Yet has the music totally gone or would I still be able to hear it in loops or other guises around the park. [edit: I know a fraction of this one is used momentarily in the new GotG rollercoaster, but mean above and beyond that]

Any that you really miss aswell?

The Epcot entrance loop was playing the Ellen's theme until it most recently changed (2020 or 2021 I think?). It also included Honey I Shrunk the Audience long after it was gone.

Epcot was the exception though. To my knowledge, the Magic Kingdom entrance only plays songs from the park. Hollywood Studios plays swing or jazz versions of Disney musicals. I'm unsure if Animal Kingdom plays any music themed to its attractions, though the last I checked, it was just licensed music that felt exotic.

It is interesting that the Disneyland esplanade music loop has changed for the "100th Anniversary". It was weird hearing stuff like One Little Spark and Honey I Shrunk the Audience alongside California Screamin'.

The one song that always screamed Disney vacation to me was the music played around Spaceship Earth. I bought every Disney park CD I could when I saw them for sale so luckily I still have the songs that no longer exist in the parks.

That’s why I treasure those CDs that I’ve collected over the years. They get listened to many times over in the weeks leading up to and on our road trip to the next WDW trip. I’ve got a few favorites that I hope never wear out. Thankfully you can find many online that have been saved for us to enjoy.

Sorcerer Radio!!! I have it on my phone and computer. With 6 different channels, you will find something you've heard, and some you haven't. I found Spotify has a good selection, have some Disney playlists downloaded for the drive there.

There is no strict policy - in fact, EPCOT is a good example of a park that continues to play some of its legacy music long after the attractions it came from have closed.

The truth is that it's less about removing old music and more about fitting the new construction. Sometimes certain loops can hang on for years after something closes just because they happen to fit with the new construction. For example, replacing the Ellen music (which was great) was much more about needing new music that fit with Cosmic Rewind than it was about trying to take the old music away from guests.

I really like the resort music channel on YouTube. They play the best music from Riverside :)
