"The masses"

I'm currently in training for a new position. I've heard more buzzwords from my trainer and the office director this week than I ever want to hear again.

But I haven't heard this come up anywhere.

"We've got to please the masses." My former boss's favorite sentence. He used it for a year...everyday! I don't miss hearing it.

Haven't noticed it. Where is it popping up?
"The masses" is a way to refer to people - society in general - in a condescending, "I'm so much better/smarter than everyone else" manner.

It lacks creativity and is unoriginal, so it generally gives me the opposite impression than the one I suspect people who use it want others to have.

It is used a lot on these boards and is catching on, especially with young people...you know the type - college kids who think they know everything, lol.

I haven't heard masses too much but I can't stand when people say to "chunk it out". I'm a teacher so the rest of civilization probably doesn't hear it but I loath that term.
Another - did you read that "piece" by whoever? No, I read an article, or a book, or a label, I did not read a piece.

Sorry, thanks for letting me vent! Pet peeves!

Ehh.. I think you're just out of the loop. We've used that term for ages.. and no not in a condesending way. Simply to describe the larger population that can be faceless or move in large waves.

We also use the term 'gen pop' for 'general population'.. to refer to those not separated into special silos.

At the end of the day you need to think outside of the box. There's a synergy that needs to form between a person and their words 24/7. If you take a proactive approach and reach out, you'll close the loop on any disruptions and become empowered to align your goals with that of the company. The best in class can be achieved with accountability and getting on the bleeding edge without higher-order thinking, resulting in a win-win situation for all.

Um..what were we talking about again?

I've heard the term "gen pop" before, just never outside of a prison related discussion.

The word a friend overuses and irritates the crap out of me is "uber". He uses that word for everything, kinda like a Valley Girl "totally."

Thanks. I just died a little inside after reading that.
