Here's one to get your mind working.Saturday night, one person ( going this year for 1st visit on site ) asked me," why do I refer to staying on site as inside the magic bubble. My explanation was once your thro those Mickey pearly gates, your leaving the real world outside and immersing yourself 24/7 with all the Disney magic around you.I suppose it's like going to a private island,47 square miles of Disney mania.I could tell by her facial expression that she just didn't get it.So how would you define " The Magic Bubble " ? Something easy that a on site first timer would understand.

Magic Bubble... THE Magic Bubble.

Hmm, as someone who grew up experiencing Disney OFFSITE I think I can add my two cents now that I have been converted to an onsite guy. It's about Disney 24/7, from the very smells, color schemes, themes of resorts, parks, DME ride, etc etc etc

It's about, at least for me, not having to drive. No more traffic going to work, jams headed home. Even though buses can be crowded, monorails down, slammed ferries, etc it's all a wash because you're just in the Magic.

It's like going to your own private little world! Getting away from all the stress and headaches of everyday life. Everything around you is magical. Staying on property gives you that freedom to enjoy everything Disney and be a kid again. They will pick you up and take you where you need to go so no need to drive.
Uh oh better stop think the coffee is kicking in!!

DW and I have made many sacrifices to be able to stay at the Beach Club a few times now. I can't speak on values, but the Epcot resorts are really the epitome of the "bubble" for me.

To me being “on property” is the most stress-free vacation there is. Once we check our bags at the airport we have nothing to do but relax and enjoy. The DME will take us to our resort; our bags appear in our room. I don’t have to worry about driving, parking, finding a place to have dinner or where am I going day to day and how do I get there. Our son can go off by himself in a park or to the pool and we don’t have to worry.

There's just nothing like being "in the middle of it all". You get a feeling upon entering those gates that, in my opinion, gets better the closer you stay to the parks. We typically still do a lot of driving, and even that is easier inside the bubble. We've stayed at MK area resorts and love the experience of looking out the window of your room and seeing the castle. We'll get to see how that feels at the Epcot resorts in a few months!

It's very hard to describe - you just have to experience it!

never having to find parking. ease of transportation throughout the parks, resorts and DTD. Knowing that if there is a traffic problem (ie: car accident) the bus driver will know alternate routes around it. The utmost friendliness of the Resort staff and mousekeepers. Turning on the TV and seeing the Disney infomercial instead of the depressing news is nice (yes you can find the news but it doesn't hit you when you turn the TV on). A Mickey Cupcake or cookie anytime I want one.

This is a topic that only us true fans can really understand and appreciate. We aren't just talking about a few days at a theme park here. It's a state of mind, it's recreating that feeling you get every time that plane lands and you get on that Magical Express or your car goes thru the WDW welcome sign and you start seeing those blue and purple signs that tell you that you are HOME. Everything else you were feeling that week, that day or that morning are gone and its time to feel what you've wanted to feel since the last time you were at WDW. I personally don't think a fraction of that can be felt staying off property. These feelings are a "package deal." Its the resorts, the parks, the food (and drinks :)), the monorail and buses and not seeing anything that reminds us of the life we left behind. It truly is a magic bubble.

For me, it's not even a theme park... it represents a mindset and a way of life. To my friends a vacation is sitting on a beach getting drunk for 5 days, Disney represents my ability to free myself from social norms and care only about what makes me, and my wife, happy without fear of rejection and "being an adult"

I agree with all the above, and the Magic is also a warm and fuzzy feeling that I sort of belong to Walt's family and have a sense of proud ownership in a small way.

the other thing to look at... millions upon millions have visited Disney parks. But how many have read the history of Walt, the history and small details of how DL and WDW came to be, why things are they way they are, etc etc etc

Millions boils down to thousands which makes us part of a pretty unique niche.

If you read through many of the different posts here, you will hear many different reasons for why we flock to Disney. I have heard people who came after the loss of a close family member and even through the tears, was able to connect to a time where a family shared a vacation memory. I have read of people who remember coming to WDW back in 1971 with parents or grandparents and want to create that same connection with their children. I have read of people who are overwhelmed with life and just need to go someplace where there is no stress and worry (this one is me!). I have read of people who come to Disney disbelievers and return converts.

For the past three + years, my life has been pretty grim personally. I have had to forego my twice yearly vacations - I went last March when I was able to sell my DVC points to friends...and not being able to go causes further emotional pain. Last year, I knew it was going to be a reprieve to be back on property. I made the most of it and stretched it out as long as I thought I could. I would get up and walk around the hotel, or Epcot, or MK and try to notice the small details - things I would keep in my memories and could call up when I needed a break from reality. The first six days of my trip were phenomenal - I didn't worry about my job situation, I didn't worry about my family situation, I didn't worry about a legal issue, I didn't worry period. But then I received two phone calls that took me out of the magic bubble and reality came flooding in.... So for me, that magic bubble let me forget all my problems, gave me pure unfettered happiness and let me enjoy some time before I had to deal with reality again.
