The low-down on September

Ok folks - for the first time ever, we're considering going to Disney World twice in 1 year. Looks like September may be the best time to go. We normally go in February. I know it's going to be hot, but is it going to be unbareable? How are the crowds? We're so used to cool temps and relatively low crowds in February (except this year, it was NUTS), are we in for a shock if we go in September?

We went the week after Labor day, two years ago. It was HOT! We took a break in the afternoons and went back to the hotel. The upside was that it was EMPTY! Even the CM were surprised at how empty it was, barely waited for anything.

The other September bonus is fall and Halloween decorations. It was so fun to see WDW all dressed up for the season. And the best part is Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. When else can you trick or treat, see the Boo to You Parade and HalloWishes, not to mention characters you can't see at other time?!

We're going back late in September this year :D....Oh yeah, free dining is going on too.

We were there last September(week of the 20th) and hope to be there this September too. The crowds were great and the weather was hardly unbearable. We came prepared with our Touring plan as we are accustom to Christmas visits but quickly realized that we didnt need them because we really didnt have to wait for anything.

We usually go in September but are considering going in Feb!

I love going in September, it is hot but not horrible. The crowds can be large towards the end of the month when the food and wine festival is set to begin. The MNSSHP party is total fun, one of the reasons we go each September is so we can go to the party. It is also one of the reasons we are hesistant to go any other time because the party is such a focus of our trip, sometimes we even go twice.

Basically, anytime you can go to WDW is a good time to go. If there are crowds, scale back what you can do and enjoy! If there are no crowds then do whatever you want to do and enjoy! It is always a good day in WDW!

It will be hot, but not as hot as June or July. It's no February, but September is a really great time of year because of the events that begin. (Food and Wine Festival and MNSSHP.) Just about every year since my husband and I were married we have gone in September because the offers were too good to pass up. The crowds seem smaller the first few weeks of September and begin to pick up the first weekend of Epcot's Food and Wine Festival.

All of our vacations have been in late Sept. and we feel as though we're melting in the heat and humidity! So, yes, it's still blazing hot during that time of the year. :dazzle:

We've gone in September practically every year since 1997! It's hot & humid but nothing like what it would be in mid summer I am sure. The crowds are not bad at all....plus there is usually a free dining offer during that time if you are interested!

I really enjoyed September. It wasn't too hot when we've been there and crowds were great. I've gone during free dining in the past and crowds were still managable. I would definitely go back in September.

Highs usually in the low 90's and humid. Wear shorts and a shirt and drink plenty of water. Crowd wise - it's usually low. Most attractions were 5-10 minute waits at peak times, with exceptions on the usually jammed rides.

For late September, the temps are in the high 80s to low 90s and not as humid as the summer months. The crowds are moderate to low so it really is a good time to go.

GO Go GO. September is our favorite time to go, the wife and I have done multiple trips there at this time. The weather is on the warm side but its not blistering. If you go later in the month you can try and go the the Halloween party if thats your kind of thing.
Have you experienced love bugs?? they can get a little interesting around that time.

I live in South Florida, and can tell you August and September are the worst months for the heat. Temps in Orlando are hotter than us because it is inland. Being on the coast we get a sea breeze. You are looking at temps mid to upper 90's and humid! Rain every afternoon but only a passing thunderstorm or shower. They don't last long. Hurricane season is at its highest threat then, but we haven't had one in many years so don't let that stop you. Disney is very prepared for them. It is where we would evacuate to. Only problem you would have is flights in or out. Please don't worry about the heat. Yes, its HOT just come prepared. Lots of water, pool time early afternoon. Parks early morning and late afternoon into the evenings. Wear hats, bring hand held fans and you will be fine!

I went for a few days in September and LOVED it - I usually go in Feb. but the downside of that is that it can be COLDDDDDDD!! A few years ago some nights in Feb it was in the low 30s.... I would rather be hot and cool off in the pool than be cold and have to layer up on clothes and be miserable....JMO

I think you will be thrilled with the weather in September and have a great time.....

September is our absolute preferred time of the year to go. There is a trade-off though, which you already touched on. We're always more than up for it too.. and that would be the crowds for the heat. Going in September it will still be hot, but the trade off is, crowd level is very low. We've been just about every week during the month over the last few years. The week after Labor Day is going to be the lowest crowds...and as you get closer to things like Food and Wine, Halloween Party/Decorations, and the marathaons... you'll see crowds increase but still overall a great time to go.

Some others can probably touch on this too from experience, but this past September seems to have been an anomaly. Last week in Sept into October 1st was bananas... Obviously with the 40th last year that had something to do with it, factor in MNSSHP, Marathon, and Food and Wine, it was busier than normal.

That all being said, if you are prepared to deal with heat, you're going to love September!

This. We have taken numerous trips in July and August, but the last week of September was the hottest by far!

Thanks so much everyone! I think we can handle the heat. The lower crowd levels will certainly be nice. And it will also be a treat to not worry about freezing our butts off :ROFLOL:

Thanks for all your help!
