The Living Seas receives accreditation from AZA
04/04/2003

The Living Seas again has been accredited by the American Zoo and Aquarium Association Accreditation Commission.
The mission of the AZA Accreditation Commission is to establish, uphold and raise the highest zoological and aquarium industry standards.

AZA requires zoos and aquariums to be accredited in order to be members of the association. Accreditation is granted for five years. At the end of that time, the institution must undergo rigorous investigation again to ensure it meets the ever-rising industry standards.

The accreditation process includes a 2-3 day inspection by a team of zoo and aquarium professionals. The team observes all aspects of the facility's operation in areas such as animal safety, keeper training, educational programs, veterinary programs, risk management and more.

Some positive observations by The Living Seas inspection team included exceptional conservation programs, exemplary water quality monitoring, state-of-the-art animal care facilities and the positive attitude and outstanding teamwork of The Living Seas' Cast Members.

The Accreditation Commission said The Living Seas is setting the standards for aquariums. Sydney J. Butler, executive director of AZA, said, "We are very pleased to grant accreditation to The Living Seas."

Do you know if these are declared visits, or will they turn up unannounced?
