Yeah..Disneys grand scheme of things::: Re-release it as IMAX to get hype..and then release a special edition DVD shortly after...

For anyone who saw BATB, you know that these movies really dont traslate well to IMAX...

I thought Beauty and the Beast was awesome on the IMAX. The sound was the best I've ever heard. Only minor problem I saw was when the artist's strokes on characters didn't line up perfectly (which they never do), you could see it on the IMAX much more--kinda made the characters "shakey". I thought it was very kewl anyway, and afterward I was like "it'd be awesome if they'd put The Lion King on here!" And then I look at the disney website (was looking for Lilo and Stitch..) and there it is! I'm quite psyched! I've heard The Little Mermaid will be next after that.

Well, when I went to go see BATB, it opened with the opening scene of Simba's coming out for the Lion King and somebody yelled out "wrong movie" It was the preview for the 2003 release and that scene looked absolutely awesome on the big screen.

Well..in all honesty..as they start translating the "newer" movies to IMAX..i'll be happy. BATB was done "sloppy" (lines never connecting etc) and on IMAX..it was very obvious. Lion King was much more percise and it shows. I agree that It looked AMAZING on that huge screen...but I am still waiting for Tarzan ;)

Yes THAT will be something to see...

In any event, I'm glad that Disney is the first major commercial distributor to develop a relationship with IMAX. It's been around for a long time but we are starting to see more and more of these theaters pop up each year. People have gone to stadium theaters and really liked what they saw, I think IMAX would be the next step. It's kind of nice to know that Disney has a foot in the door in case it does take off. :)

Well..it just fits with Disneys long history of "inventing new ways"...

Fantasia 2k was more than just a pretty movie..for anyone in animation..it was a MILESTONE...it prooved that it was possible to do something we all thought couldnt be done. I remember back when I was in college (about the time they were working on Fantasia 2k) we used to joke about how impossible it would be to make something for the IMAX format...and sure enough..Disney pulled it off...perfectly...

I see IMAX catching on...eventually...but its not going to be anytime soon. Its HUGE in Japan, but in the states..a lot of people still dont think of it as a "real movie"..and see it as more of an attraction

The irony there is that we have more room for the theaters over here. (For anyone who doesn't know that's reading this. An imax screen is normally between six and seven stories tall.)... I think the problem is that it's still too much of a novelty here. There still aren't enough theaters and most of the movies are of the National Geographic style which always look really nice in that format but don't attract as many viewers as would say... Terminator 3... We actually have two of them over here and one of them shows some regular screen movies in it sometimes. For a while they were running Gladiator and The Matrix on it (long after they had both left regular theaters). I haven't seen one of these movies there yet and have no idea how they pulled it off unless an IMAX version of some sort was released but my point is that I think it's really a chicken and egg situation. The theaters are so expensive to build (so much so that the projection equipment is leased from IMAX rather than purchased in most cases) that nobody wants to take too much of a chance with setting up a large enough network of them to attract hollywood and hollywood doesn't want to invest a lot of money in the format till it sees enough theaters open to make it a sure bet...

When I went to see BATB down in Miamis I-Max..the theater wasnt even 1/3rd filled (which of course means that it was maybe a croud that would fill a normal theater)...it saddened me...especailly since Miami is overcrouded with Disney nuts.

The more expensive tickets could of course contribute to this, but in my opinion its worth it. Well.actually..its worth it for a REAL movie, and not a showcase of Sigmund and Froyd..or whatever their names are.

LoL, I went to see The Journey Of Man down there about a year or so ago and it seemed pretty deserted to me at that time, too... The problem with theaters like that is that they seem to be more of a field trip destination than a place to go for a night out. I think the Movico one at Orlando Point probably does a lot more business because it's also a great place to see 'normal' movies... We have one like that over here that opened in a new entertainment and shopping complex. Unfortunately the area it was put in isn't the greatest and the regular theaters have a lot of competition to deal with in terms of attracting an audience but I'm hopeful that business will pick up for it because even if a 20 screen stadium complex opts to put only one IMAX screen in it could have a huge impact over time. I think those are the ones best poised to make the investment, too. :)

I went to see Fantasia 2k and we booked the tickets on the internet. When we arrived the place was so packed that they had sold our seats and had to bring in chairs, so IMAX must be quite popular.

Well, Fantasia 2000 was like the biggest thing to ever hit IMAX. That would be like the little local theater house getting a visiting production of Fantom of the Opera. If you go when they are showing a movie about dolphins or lions you'll notice a big difference.

"Normal" movies on the IMAX screen are simply AMAZING. Our IMAX theater is currently playing Lord of the Rings at night--incredible. Any action movies are great on the IMAX screen with all the action whirling around you. I saw Twister on an IMAX screen, along with Jumanji, Armageddon, and Titanic. I don't know how they do it, but the sound is completely redone with the added speakers, the images sharper, and they release them on IMAX film at the same time as they release them in the normal theaters here. I love our Cinemark IMAX...except for the daytime shows. Sigfried and Roy, NSYNC, and that stupid Mysteries of Egypt do not appeal to me. They are too short, too unexciting, and too expensive. I'd rather pay $9 for a real movie...every time I go to our IMAX, it's more crowded. I think these screens are starting to catch on. Problem is they play crappy movies like Sigfried which turn people away...they need to play Lord of the Rings in there all day and it'd attract more people...

As time passes, more and more towns will get IMAX...and thats when it will REALLY carch on. There is only something like 100 "Movie" Imax theaters aruond (the rest all show scientific demonstrations and such), so a lot of people still dont understand WHAT IMAX really is...It will change...and I wait for that day ;)

well, I saw B&TB on Imax last night, and yes, there was some shakiness to the characters, but overall I loved it. and the trailer for TLK looked so good, I can't wait to see the whole movie on IMAX. the stampede scene will be fantastic.
