This is about our 10th trip since 08. Our boys are 12,15 and 18. We've been DVC members at the Polynesian for the last 5 years. We just got back from a trip from 8/6 to 8/16. Right off the bat we ran into major difficulties in MK. This was our first trip since 22, and I couldn't believe the number of ropes that went up everywhere in MK, once the fireworks were coming. We're not big into fireworks, so we normally leave or go on rides. This time, we couldn't go anywhere. We were in fantasyland and wanted to head out. Our boys wanted to go to tomorrowland. Nope, they were blocked, and the ropes didn't come down for 30 minutes after the fireworks. We tried to just leave and were jammed into a crowd that was being ushed through the stores by Casey's Corner. Thousands of people, jammed through a double door.
Normally all of these people could think for themselves and just do what they wanted, but not anymore. Hundreds of strollers, people shopping all jammed into the store. All exits to main st were blocked off. Dozens of cast members waving wands and yelling through speakers. It was like someone's industrial engineering thesis was being put the test and failing horribly.
I know it get chaotic during fireworks, but i've never been treated like i was in a herd of sheep. It was disgusting and horrible. I have no interest in being 3" from people hacking, coughing, pushing strollers and riding scooters. We didn't get back to the polynesian until 10:15, while trying to leave since 9:00. Meanwhile my kids just sat in fantasy land, with nowhere to go until the park almost closed. We used to go to MK almost every night, but after that mess, we only returned one other day. That day Tiana was closed most of the day, which we had a virtual queue for, Big Thunder Mountain was closed for almost the entire day, peter pan was of course closed.
I've never witnessed the number of rides down as we did on this trip. We were in AK one day. Everest was down for the morning and finally came up. My boys headed to the single rider line. It went down again. Cast member came out and removed everyone from the area. One was screaming nonstop at everyone. "You, stand up, you have to leave." "You! get out, you have to leave this area!" She was screaming at everyone. All of the people with strollers and kids sleeping were being yelled at. People waiting for their family members to come back out of line and figure out what they're doing were all being screamed at to leave the area. I told her, I'm waiting for my kids, and she said, go wait somewhere else. I told her, if you can move me, I'll move, but until then I'll wait for my kids right here.
Mk seemed very unkempt. Jungle cruise had trash everywhere in the queue and over the fence. Pecos Bill was a mess. Starlight cafe had the absolute worst burger on property.
For the first time ever, my wife said, I can use a long break from that place. That was not fun. I think we'll be renting out our points for a while, because I agree with her. What was once a must do, has now become an expensive annoyance.
